Why test always-on for just 12 hours

I keep everything active, including cellular, and wear my watch all night. By the time I shower, I have about 40% charge left. That’s when I charge it up, and it takes about 30 minutes. I put it back on, and after a few hours, I head to bed with the watch on.

I used to get fantastic battery life of 28 to 36 hours with my Series 9 and was worried about upgrading to the Series 10 after reading about battery problems. But it’s all good! I even use watch faces loaded with complications, and it handles it just fine.

@River
How do you clean your watch? I usually shower with mine, but on days when I don’t, I use soap on the band and a microfiber cloth on the watch.

I clean it once or twice a day—usually a quick wipe in the morning and again later in the day. I use a microfiber cloth too. As for the band, I wash it every 4 to 7 days, depending on how sweaty my workouts are. I let it soak in water with baby shampoo for about 30 minutes, scrub it with a small brush, and rinse it off. Sometimes I even throw the band in a laundry bag and toss it in the washing machine. Works great!

@River
I’ve never cleaned mine, to be honest.

I know this is just a test, but do people really use their watch like this? No complications, no measurements, no fitness tracking, no sleep tracking—why even use a smartwatch at this point?

Because you don’t miss notifications this way. Plus, I get meeting reminders, I set timers daily, and even use my watch as a flashlight sometimes.

Even if you’re not using all those features, the health app still gets the data from the sensors.

@Skyler
But it won’t drain the battery as much since you’re not moving or tracking a workout.

We have widgets now, so there’s no need for complications on the watch face. You can just swipe up to check the weather or whatever else. Some people just prefer the cleaner look of a traditional watch face.

@Sawyer
I wish all apps had useful widgets. Todoist doesn’t even have one.

Steppsapp is the one that bugs me. No useful widget there either.

All that health tracking data is collected passively, and so is Siri functionality. If I’m listening to music or a podcast, the controls automatically pop up. Most of what I need is available just by swiping up, even if it’s not on the watch face.

I mainly use my watch for notifications and checking the time. But I also love tracking my activities when I play soccer.

@Olen
Aren’t you worried about damaging the screen if the ball hits it directly? I’ve seen the sensor glass on the back get cracked before.

I’ve had a Series 0, Series 4, and now a Series 8. I skateboard and work on cars, and even with all that rough activity, I’ve never cracked the screen or sensor.

Some people can break anything—even things that seem unbreakable.

Haha, reminds me of that post where someone gave their watch to a toddler, and it came back looking like it was thrown into a garbage disposal!

I only use my watch for a few things, but I’d never switch to a regular watch. Even when I’m not using it actively, it still tracks data that’s important to me.

Ever since they added the Smart Stack, I’ve stopped using complications. One swipe up, and everything I need is right there, but my watch face still looks nice and clean the rest of the time.
