Old wired EarPods still solid?

My AirPods Pro are getting replaced, they had issues with noise cancelling and the charging case.

So, I’m using the old wired EarPods again, and to my surprise, they still hold up. For phone calls, they’re perfect. The sound quality is pretty close to my AirPods, too. Anyone else think the same?

I have both the latest AirPods and EarPods. Honestly, I can’t tell a huge difference in sound. But, I’m just a casual listener, so maybe I’m missing something.

Same here, they just work for me.

Oh no, all of Apple’s older wired headphones, including the updated EarPods, would hurt my ears after a while. My AirPods Pro fit perfectly, no issues at all.

Yep, they always fit terribly for me, too. They’d fall out all the time.

Same! Or worse, the wire would get caught on something, and I’d end up pulling them out of my ears painfully.

Exactly!

Agreed, AirPods are super comfy. But the microphone? Not great.

The sound is balanced, but EarPods lack detail. They hide a lot of flaws in bad recordings, so I use them when I’m listening to something that’s not well-produced.

By the way, the USB-C to 3.5mm adapter is actually a DAC with a solid headphone amp. For $9, it’s a steal.

Actually, every 3.5mm dongle has a DAC, since 3.5mm is analog and USB is digital, so the conversion is necessary.

The Apple one is okay, but there are much better options out there for just a bit more money. For instance, the FiiO KA5 offers way more power without distortion. Also, the output for international versions of the Apple dongle is lower than the US one. It’s really the bare minimum.

Good point. Does the Lightning to 3.5mm also work as a powered DAC?

I’ll compare once I get my AirPods Pro 2 back and test with more detailed tracks.

Honestly, they’re really good, and the microphone is as good as some studio mics.

What kind of studio mics are you comparing them to? No way they’re that good.

Exactly my thought.

I feel like they sound way better than AirPods, at least to me.

I can’t tell if you’re serious or just nostalgic. I can’t go back to wired headphones. My ears start hurting after 20 minutes. The sound is okay, but they lack all the cool features like spatial audio and noise cancelling. And those older round ones? Just painful.

Wired EarPods sound better if they fit your ears, and they have a way better mic. That said, wired headphones aren’t for everyone because they lack noise cancelling and can be uncomfortable for some.

I don’t know why people always downvote someone’s opinion. Fixed that 0 for you because it was bugging me.
