Is dish soap safe for Apple's silicone case?

Just got a black silicone case for my iPhone 15 Pro Max. I found some cleaning instructions directly from the Apple website… How is water alone supposed to clean oily smudges and dirt? Is dish soap and water safe to use on this case? If not, how do you clean it? I heard alcohol wipes ruin the case.

Just use Dawn, it will be fine. I clean silicone utensils and everything with Dawn and it’s fine

You could dilute some dish soap like Dawn, 1 drop in a cup of water and wipe gently…

Ok. Did you ever try that? Was it ok?

I’ve been using Apple silicone cases for all my phones for the last four upgrades. I worked in a body shop and got dirty oil, coolant, and soap on it, ran it under tap water, left it on top of wet paint on the bench, etc. for years and years. The silicone only tears after years of abuse. A little Dawn won’t hurt your case.

Silicone isn’t great for cases. It picks up every speck of pocket dust. Black is probably the worst color for looking clean. It will pretty much never look good

Damn really? I read that other colors look worse as they age. The lint thing is so true though - this case picks up everything.

@Vic
It’s definitely less noticeable on lighter colors, but things like wet jeans could transfer dye to them.

Best bet is to get another leather case. Andar Aspen is what I’m using on my 13 Pro Max. But there are also Bullstrap and Nomad options.

@Mai
I would’ve definitely gone for a leather one if Apple continued making them. Those fine-woven ones look terrible.

Nomad makes great leather cases

Then what else? I want to change my silicone case but can’t seem to find any cases that are made other than silicone and leather

I have this case that is a textured hard rubber. It still looks like it did the day I got it. Something like this would be your best bet if you want something rubbery that won’t show marks over time.

I think it should work.

It’s all dirt and grime on the case most of the time so just like how one washes their face every day, try washing the phone case like that and see if it works

They say not to. So don’t. Use a cloth and it’ll be fine.

Apple tests these products pretty extensively and updates when specific ones cause problems. If it’s not listed, don’t use it. Water and a cloth clean mine just fine.

@Graydon
Water and cloth don’t clean anything. Also, they didn’t mention soap, which is why I asked.

Water and scrubbing does clean - where are you getting the idea that it doesn’t? Sure, it doesn’t match the effectiveness of soap, but saying it doesn’t clean anything is ridiculous.

@Charlie
It doesn’t. Water doesn’t disinfect anything.

Yes it does
