Dropped my iPhone in water… what now?

So today, I accidentally dropped my iPhone 15 in water. I have no idea how long it was in there since I didn’t notice right away. Now it won’t charge… what should I do?

Your phone is water-resistant, so unless it was already damaged, it should be fine. Do you see any actual signs of water damage?

Yeah, it’s giving me a water detected warning.

@Darwin
Just that? That just means there’s moisture in the charging port. Let it dry completely, and the message should go away.

Will this cause any long-term issues?

That depends on whether the water resistance seal is still intact. If your phone has a SIM slot, you can check inside for any signs of water.

@Darwin
Just leave it in an open space with airflow for a few hours, and it should be fine.

Where did it happen? If you pulled it out quickly, it shouldn’t be a problem.

I think it was in the water for about 20 minutes.

If it’s still working, let it dry for at least a day before charging. If you try too soon, you’ll keep getting the moisture warning.

Give it more time to dry. Try charging it tomorrow, and it should be fine.

Try charging with MagSafe and use water removal sounds at full volume. iPhones go through a lot of water testing, so it should be fine after some time.

Just leave it to dry—it’ll be okay.

Let it air dry.

The phone won’t allow charging until the port is dry to prevent damage. You can use wireless charging for now.

Check for corrosion in the charging port.

It’s probably fine. Just give it time to dry out.

Put it on a MagSafe stand or something similar and leave it for a few hours.

Tried using a hair dryer on mine before, and it worked. Just don’t charge it for at least 8 hours.

Don’t use a hair dryer—it can weaken the water resistance and even push water further inside.
