Does an injury ruin your progress?

I recently got injured and it’s affecting my training. How does an injury impact your progress?

I wouldn’t say it ruins progress, only delays it

True

Delaying would be if the progress stopped happening for a while but the vitals remained unchanged, which is not the case here this is literally reverting the progress already done…

@Sam
Like, that’s just your opinion, man.

Progress can eventually be restarted or regained, hence this just being a delay. Temporary stoppage, if you will.

I choose to see the positive, you don’t. :woman_shrugging:t5:

@LucasThomas
Temporary stoppage is different than regression is my only point - if you work to make a thousand euros and lose them, you can still make another thousand euros of course - but that’s not a delay in making 1k, you just wasted 1k worth of work :stuck_out_tongue:

No, injury is literally ruining progress, because it forces you backwards. You have to start small again and work your way back up to where you were before the injury, which can be anywhere from days for a minor injury to months for a major one, or you might never return at all.

That’s not even talking about the motivation side of things. For someone who had to challenge themselves to start, picking that back up is equally if not more challenging.

@Hadi
Like I said… temporary stoppage :+1: I prefer to look at it from a different perspective, your perspective is not mine.

I broke my arm 26 years ago and still cannot extend it straight out.

I popped my knee out of place 5 years ago and despite the years since of regular physical activity, it still bothers me and flares up limiting my ability to lift things or even walk for too long.

It is not at all uncommon where injuries are effectively permanent.

Yeah, had awesome jumps last year until I was hit by a truck and ended up with shattered arm. Was healing well enough and about to start therapy back end of May when had another accident, broke the same arm at the ball (sheared at the top of the hardware already in the arm) and reset progress to zero yet again. Now, finally back in and nearly where I was before the 2nd break. But lost my rings and my Vo2 progress…

@Blaire
Dang…

Aw :frowning: this was me earlier this year. Broke my ankle snowboarding. I am just now feeling almost fully recovered and able to be even more active than before the injury. It certainly inspired me to value my health and I’m pushing harder than before

Must be ready for ski :skier: season

Haha I think I’m actually done with winter sports. That was enough for me :clown_face:

Nice :blush:

The older I get, the longer the setbacks last. I’ve gotten a lot better at listening to my body to avoid these setbacks as much as possible. I find it funny when Garmin elitists downplay the ability to make a phone call on the Apple Watch while out on a run. If you can’t think of a reason to make a phone call while on a run, I don’t think you’ve been running that long and should probably drop your elitist attitude.

Good luck with your recovery!

@Wade
Thanks :pray: back on it after 2 weeks of rest…

Basic question: what is that graph?

It’s a training load chart :barber:

I was in a bad car crash and used my Apple Watch to track my recovery process. It made me feel much better.

You’ll get stronger again. I know it sucks though.
