Could this update be the best ever

So funny, I was thinking about upgrading from my 2009 MacBook Pro to the one you have right now

I did the same upgrade in 2009, and I’m still using the 2015 one. It should feel like a nice step up! It is definitely showing its age, but if you’ve been using a computer from 2009 you’ll be used to that. Compared to the 2009 one, it should run quieter and cooler. The screen should be better, hopefully, you get one without too much peeling, and the trackpad is an improvement. The onboard speakers are way better too, not hi-fi but a huge improvement over the awful mono one.

@Piper
I upgraded from a 2010 to a 2013 MacBook Pro and then to a 2017 MacBook Pro, which was a horrible mistake. I traded in the 2017 for a 2022 M2 Air that I still use today.

@Piper
Yeah, I have the 17-inch one, and the screen is unbelievable. I mostly use it for gaming and YouTube, but it struggles with both at once.

Get a 15-inch model

This is the perfect analogy.

If you want to get rid of the 2015, I would love to have it. It would be an upgrade for me

It is practically unusable at this stage. The screen has deteriorated and is completely broken.

@Leith
Oh well…

@Leith
Is the antireflective coating peeling off? Or is the whole screen dead?

Both. It fell from my bed while I was sleeping and has slowly become ridiculously unusable sadly.

@Leith
Yeah, that’s not worth replacing the screen sadly.

You won’t have to think about the fans or heat on these new machines. They’re top tier, I can’t live without my M1 MacBook Air.

So lucky to be getting the M4 chip. It literally has mesh shading now and can run Alan Wake 2. That is incredible.

Just 8GB? That’s a shame, you should at least have 32GB of RAM. That seems unusable.

You are a bit late. Apple actually sees it that way too. No more Macs sold by Apple below 16GB of RAM.

@Poe
True but it isn’t out of the market yet. My 15 Pro was also discontinued, and it’s still kicking.

Well, I have both. You don’t really notice the differences in basic tasks, but lacking RAM slowly kills the SSD. My 8GB Mac has written 40TB less than a year, and that’s insane.
