Can we trust Facebook Marketplace deals like this?

I thought this deal was too good to be real. A brand new MacBook Pro M2 with 16GB RAM and 1TB storage for $500! I don’t really need it, but who could say no to this price?

This sounds like it could be stolen or maybe just someone’s old work laptop that they are trying to sell.

Yeah, I bet. I know it’s older now, but even used M1 models don’t go for that price.

@Dallas
It’s a shame we have to be so suspicious about these deals. I really hope for the person who posted it that they got lucky and found a great deal.

So it’s stolen but comes with a box?

Yeah, what does the box matter? If someone stole a MacBook, it would be iCloud locked anyway.

It’s probably MDM locked.

No response from the person who posted. Guess they found out and lost $500.

I would check if it’s MDM locked… maybe meet at an Apple Store or Best Buy.

You can check that yourself. It’s easy to do.

  1. Press and hold the Option key
  2. Select the Apple menu
  3. Choose System Information
  4. Scroll to Software in the sidebar
  5. Click Profiles or Managed Profiles

If you see an MDM profile, the device is managed. If there’s no profile, then it’s not managed.

This definitely sounds like it’s stolen.

So, have you turned it on and logged in yet?

Can you please answer our questions?

Did you manage to set it up? Was it locked?

It’s probably stolen and locked.

Looks like you just bought a stolen MacBook.

How much do you want for it?

With the box, I almost thought someone got a good deal. No issues logging in?

I can’t log in unfortunately, but it’s still a great deal!

Then it’s just a paperweight. If it’s attached to an Apple ID, it’s basically worthless to anyone. Not even good for spare parts because everything is linked to that ID.
