I just want a standalone 30 to 32 inch 6K display that’s not 5,000 dollars.

How hard is it to just create a standalone MacBook Pro screen that is 27 to 32 inches? I really want an Apple display but being stuck at 60hz these days is silly.
@Dariel
Yeah, updated Pro displays with miniLED and 120hz would be amazing. Even with Apple’s premium pricing, it should be under 5,000 dollars now. Dell’s 6K display is 2,300 dollars including the stand.
@Kai
Just out of curiosity, can you even run 5k or 6k resolution at 120 Hz through a Thunderbolt connection?

With Thunderbolt 5, yes. Thunderbolt 5 is expected for M4 and it should happen. Thunderbolt 5 triples the display bandwidth from 40 Gbps on Thunderbolt 4 to 120 Gbps. I think Apple has been waiting for Thunderbolt 5 to add ProMotion to their 5k and 6k displays since Thunderbolt 4 doesn’t have enough bandwidth.
@Paris
I really hope so. Especially with more games available for Mac, having an Apple display with 120hz would be fantastic.

The current ProDisplay XDR works with Thunderbolt 3 at 6k 10bpc at 60hz. So in theory, Thunderbolt 4 could support 120hz.
Actually, forget that. As mentioned below, Thunderbolt 3 and 4 share the same bandwidth.
@Taylor
Thunderbolt 3 and 4 have the same bandwidth.

They need Thunderbolt 5 to support 6k at 120hz.

Or, how about a DisplayPort 2.1 connection? 6016 x 3384 at 120Hz uses about 63Gbps at 8bit color depth. DisplayPort 2.1 supports up to 80Gbps. You don’t even need Display Stream Compression (DSC) to handle this. While it would be pushing it for 6k at 120Hz with 10bit, an 8bit setup would work great for non-professional displays. Anyone needing 10bit would likely use the existing XDR.
@Freeman
It doesn’t seem like Apple is willing to compromise on color accuracy.

Considering many Apple users are in creative fields, I think color resolution is really important for them. If you need different shades and color accuracy, you want it to look good.

Neither are iPads or iPhones, but they have 120hz?

Check out what Asus announced recently:
> The Asus ProArt PA27JCV is a 27 inch screen with a 5120 x 2880 5K resolution, while the Asus ProArt PA32QCV is a larger 31.5 inch screen with a high 6016 x 3384 6K resolution. Both use IPS panels and cover 99% DCI-P3 and 100% sRGB color spectrum.
No prices are out yet.
@Clancy
The ProArt line is fantastic for Apple devices. They even have a 27 inch 4K OLED monitor. It would be amazing if they also offered a 120hz version.
