I usually don’t mind updates since iPadOS 15, but iPadOS 18 is really disappointing and feels incomplete. Game Mode adds 100ms of delay to earbuds, causes games to crash after 10 minutes, and limits the frame rate to 40-50 fps. Turning off Game Mode fixes these issues, but today I had a bigger problem. After I switched from Safari to the Home Screen, my iPad lost all textures, the screen turned black with purple boxes, and it kept trying to restart for 10 minutes before asking to connect to a computer. Once I did that, I found everything was corrupted, and I lost all my data. Thanks Apple for releasing an update that can wipe your data clean. I never updated to a beta on this iPad and didn’t do anything inappropriate with it.
For me, Files is the worst part.
I have a brand new iPad Air M2, and the Files app is really laggy and full of bugs. It feels like we have to get used to unfinished products from Apple now. They are not what they used to be.
@Sai
I agree, the new Files app is terrible. It recently froze my iPhone to the point where I couldn’t reboot it, and it only turned off when the battery died. It wasted 2 hours of my time, all from playing an 11MB mp4 file that worked fine on iOS 17.
@Zen
YES, the Files app is awful.
@Sai
Files is completely broken. It randomly erases my documents and copies text all over the document whenever it feels like it.

I’m skeptical of AI in general. I’m just not sure it will add much to our everyday devices. I know venture capital is excited for it, but I don’t trust their motives. Maybe Apple will make it more user-friendly or maybe it will end up being like the Vision Pro, and not in a good way.
@Clove
I feel the same way, yet I get downvoted for being skeptical of AI.

All Apple products are perfect and great. If not, it’s because you’re using them wrong. To suggest otherwise will get you downvoted.

I’m on the iOS 18.1 beta, not sure why I did that, and they haven’t even added chatGPT yet. It’s a mess.
It’s crazy that Apple’s latest flagship, the M4 iPad Pro, doesn’t even have iPadOS 18 right now. They pulled it just a couple of days after the release. If the newest iPad doesn’t support it, it’s no surprise that it’s not running well on older models.
@Parker
I tried to install it on my M4 two weeks ago. It bricked my iPad. I just got a replacement this week. Now the new one doesn’t even have 18 as an option. They really should announce something about M4 and iOS 18 or they’ll end up sending everyone a new iPad.
@Parker
They didn’t pull it just for performance issues. They pulled it because it was bricking M4 iPads, and they haven’t issued a fix yet.

I’m running iOS 18 beta on mine, and it works perfectly.
@Parker
Yet I’m using it right now. What are you talking about?

I’m using it too, but I think a reasonable number of M4 iPads got bricked, and Apple pulled the update for all M4s. If you try to update now from 17, you won’t be able to. Not sure when they plan to re-release it.
That’s why I always wait for the .1 release.
I updated and didn’t like it, so I went back to 17.6.1. My iPad even died faster on iPadOS 18. I had to use IPSW to revert.
I’d say the notes app is the worst.
When I take a lot of handwritten notes, my iPad slows down, gets warm, drains the battery, and the notes app sometimes crashes. I think it’s due to a memory leak or CPU issue, possibly from the new math notes feature.
I’ve also been getting that annoying unresponsive touch screen bug, like the one on the iPhone 16, and my Apple Pencil disconnects randomly. I have an 8th generation iPad I got in early 2021, so I figured it would only affect my iPad, but I heard on other forum threads that newer models have the same issue.
