What is the f on facetime ios 17?

I recently bought the iPhone 15 Pro, and when I use the “focus” feature in the camera app by tapping on the screen, an “f” appears in the corner. I can activate it, but I don’t know what it’s for. It looks like the symbol for “camera aperture” (or “Blende” in German). What does it do? I couldn’t find any information on the Apple help pages.

Hello Fam, In iOS 17 FaceTime, the “f” symbol activates Focus mode. Tapping this button during a FaceTime call enables a background blur effect, keeping the focus on you and enhancing the video call experience for the person you’re talking to. It works similarly to portrait mode in photos.

The “f” on FaceTime in iOS 17 represents a new feature allowing users to leave video messages when the recipient is unavailable for a FaceTime call.

. It’s actually a reference to the Portrait Mode in DSLR cameras, when you tap the “F” button, your face and body will be in focus, and the background around you will be automatically blurred.
