OLED and 120hz would be amazing.

They are likely removing the jelly scroll using a different method, probably through software.

I’m the idiot who just bought the old mini a few weeks ago before these rumors hit. You’re welcome.

That’s only a few weeks back. Even though I’m in this forum, I’m not the type who needs the newest device. As long as the mini 6 keeps running Logic well, it fulfills what I bought it for.

Same here, but when I wonder if it’s too late in the cycle to buy, I check the buyer’s guide at MacRumors.

Yikes, but still.

At least you could have saved some money if you were closer! So close haha.

If it’s going to run Apple Intelligence, can we expect 8GB of RAM this time too?

If it features an A17 Pro as rumored, then 8 GB is a safe bet. The memory is part of the SoC.

The iPad lineup seems a bit messy right now but I see how they got to where they are. They need something between the flagship Pro line and the regular iPad line. I’m not sure if the Air name fits. To me, it looks like they want to align it closer with Macs since Air is a Mac term.

Why not:

  • iPad Pro: the top workhorse, has everything that’s latest and best.

  • iPad: what the iPad Air is pretty much today.

  • iPad SE: what the 10th-gen iPad is right now.

The Mini doesn’t need to stand alone — just make it a size version for the entire range.

I couldn’t agree more with this. It would make things easier for regular consumers to understand. Or really, it’s easier for me to explain to my family and friends when they ask for my thoughts.

I think it will have at least an M processor or maybe an M1. I’m hoping.

As another user mentioned, you’re better off with a new A series chip. M1 is 4 years old! M chips are designed more for multi-core tasks but A chips are usually better for single-core ones, which I think is what many apps are used for in general. Unless you’re using it for media work or other rare tasks, you’d likely find an A chip better for a phone or small tablet. If that’s what you’re doing, you might do it on a bigger screen anyway.

M series compared to A series is mostly about power usage. It’s crazy that they managed to fit an M chip into an 11-inch tablet because it thermal throttles super fast.

An M1 would actually run a lot slower than a current iPhone SoC.

Maybe they will include Stage Manager as a feature thanks to the extra RAM on the A17 Pro. But don’t expect an M series chip.

This decision will help me decide whether to buy the iPad Pro or the mini. I’m really hoping for the mini.

I really like the mini and I’ve had almost all of them, I think. But with the time in between releases and the specs compared to the price, it feels like Apple doesn’t see it as a key product.

I gave up on the mini when the 6 came out and switched to the Pro. I’ve had several iPad Pros and they’ve always been excellent. I currently use an 11-inch M1 Pro and an 11-inch M4 Pro. Both are fantastic devices, the Pro is obviously bigger but the performance and capabilities are a huge leap.

I’d pay a premium for a Pro mini but that’s probably not happening. It surprises me how few people value the smaller iPads.

Yeah, it’s tough to see it any other way. And it puts people in a tough spot if they’re looking for a mini now because you don’t want to grab one and then learn it’s on its way out in a year or two.

I hope I’m wrong but if we see another iPad mini, I feel it’ll be the last one, like the iPhone 13 mini getting one last hurrah.

The mini needs an M1 chip, OLED, and support for Pencil Pro. Its size is already too niche to hurt iPhone or iPad Air/Pro sales.

Exactly this. There’s really no risk of competition here. This targets a specific group who want an e-reader sized tablet, likely for that purpose, but also want solid performance and premium features, or they would just choose an e-reader instead.

I love my mini 6 but it can feel a bit slow. Not sure if it’s due to low storage (I have the 64GB LTE model and about 5GB free), I hope they bring similar performance to the current Air.
