This feature will probably disappear like the Touch Bar. I doubt it’ll be around by the iPhone 17. I think the iPhone 16 was just a trial run for Apple’s new AI features. Any real upgrades will come with the iPhone 17.
@Avery
I don’t think Apple will drop it that quickly. The Touch Bar stuck around for a while before it was discontinued.
It may not be very useful yet, but I think it’s better to have it than not. A dedicated shutter button is handy, and they’ve either added or are planning to add a half-press for focus, so it would feel like a real camera shutter.
@Darby
To me, it’s still one of the most pointless additions. They could use the Action Button for the same things. It’s probably not going to last.

I see where you’re coming from, but I’ve actually grown to like it over the past month.
It’s accessible right from any screen, locked or unlocked, and it frees up shortcuts on the lock screen and the Action Button. My Action Button is set up to control my car functions, like preconditioning, flashlight, and car app. The Camera Control lets me launch the camera instantly without touching the other controls.
Using it in the camera app though? That part feels clunky. It’s okay in portrait, but terrible in landscape mode.
I think Apple is betting that the Camera Control will eventually be used for visual AI stuff that’s more advanced (whether or not they pull it off is another story).
For me, I like the Camera Control since I take a lot of photos, so it’s quicker to access the camera, zoom, and…
