They definitely need to do something with it… Right now, it’s just kind of sitting there without a purpose. I wouldn’t be surprised if it ends up like 3D Touch, where they quietly phase it out.
It needs to have other uses, not just for the camera.
@Cameron
They’ve had the Action Button for a year now and haven’t added much to it… no options for double-tap, long press, or anything. It’s still just one action. So I really doubt they’ll do much with the Camera Control button.
@GOERGINA
At least with the Action Button, you can link it to Shortcuts, which makes it pretty flexible.
The Camera Control button though? I only ever use it to open the camera.

Learning about Shortcuts has been really cool, but it drives me crazy that Spotify doesn’t work with it.
@Cameron
I actually love the camera button… I’ve got two little kids, so being able to get to the camera instantly is a big help. But honestly, I’d trade it to have 3D Touch back.
Why not let us scroll a webpage like a touchpad?

Now that’s some outside-the-box thinking… I like it.

But why though? You can just scroll with your thumbs on the screen.
@Emerson
Some reading apps already use volume buttons for scrolling, which can be useful when you’re reading or watching endlessly. I think the camera button could do different things in different apps, like acting as a shortcut in a reading app, but as a button in a camera app. Phones have limited button space, so giving buttons more flexibility would be smart. Apple could make them more customisable, kinda like what Android has had for a while now.
@Emerson
Not trying to be rude, but look, 15 people liked the idea, and I tried it myself right away and thought it was cool enough to comment here. So what’s the magic number of people who’d have to like this before you start to think maybe it has some value?
@Dru
I see your point, no hard feelings! But honestly, I just feel like it adds nothing new… It doesn’t solve any issues, just makes things more repetitive.

No one’s saying it’s a huge feature… It’s more of a fun add-on. If anything, the button itself is a bit redundant.

This idea brings back that Blackberry vibe! Remember the touchpad on the Blackberry Bold? That phone was amazing for productivity.
@Jordan
I never had one, but if they released something like a Blackberry again, I’d definitely consider it.
I only use it to open the camera… nothing else.
If they don’t add more features to this button before the iPhone 17, it’s just a waste.
They should make an app where you can pet a virtual cat by pressing the Camera Control button… that would be cute.
As a left-handed person, this button is pretty much useless to me.

One of my old Samsung phones had a feature where the power button could be used to scroll, so it was pretty versatile. It would be nice to have something similar.
