Should I stick with Google One or switch to iCloud

I have been using Google One for 4 years on my Android devices and just switched to Apple. Now I have most devices in the Apple ecosystem. I keep getting notifications that my storage is full on both platforms.

I’m thinking about switching from Google Drive to iCloud but I had some trouble with it before.

Should I keep Google One or go back to iCloud now that I’m an Apple user

I recommend iCloud. Apple doesn’t scan your files as Google does, which is a known issue. Google may even block you from accessing your files or at worst, ban your account. This could prevent you from using any services tied to that email.

I had the same choice to make recently, and it all comes down to how you want to use the service. I needed a backup option to store my photos and videos safely, helping me free up space on my phone.

I learned that iCloud is more like a syncing service rather than pure cloud storage. This means it’s not easy to keep files in iCloud while deleting them from your phone and other devices.

I went with Google One, and it worked perfectly for me. My phone storage is clear again, and I can access all my media through the Google Photos app.

Have you tried getting all your photos back from Google cloud? You really should.

I attempted it and it was a real hassle. That’s why I’m cautious about switching to another storage option.

There’s an easy way to get your data from Google One. It’s called Google Takeout.

It took me 5 days of constant downloading. Don’t do it.

I use iCloud and my storage is free too. You can store files only in iCloud so they don’t take up space on your phone. It works well; I can still access my files if I want, but they use no space on my iPhone.

I choose iCloud. For one, it has great integration with the OS. You also have the option for end-to-end encryption, which Google doesn’t offer. That means even Apple can’t read your files, contacts, or photos.

Google scans and processes everything you put on Google Drive or Photos, so I’d pass on them.

You should first understand what iCloud really is.

Definitely iCloud. Google sells your information.

iCloud is a syncing service and not purely storage.

With iCloud, if you delete something on your phone, it’s also removed from the cloud. A service like Box or Dropbox allows you to store files, then delete them from your phone while keeping them in the cloud.

I’ve heard this before, but doesn’t Google Photos work the same way on an Android?

That’s true, but why would you want to delete something from your phone if you want to keep it? If it’s on iCloud, it takes up no space on your phone as long as the right settings are enabled.

I prefer iCloud mainly because you get end-to-end encryption with advanced data protection. Google scans your content, and I’ve even had spam and unwanted content in my Google Drive, which was frustrating. I had to block each sender individually.
