I sold my Apple Watch to my cousin, unpaired it from my phone, and reset it. But for some reason, it’s still showing up in my ‘Find My’ app. Could any of my data still be on it? I’m worried because I’m not out yet, and I don’t want anything personal leaking…
Nope, if you unpaired it properly, everything should be wiped. The device gets fully erased when you do that.
Edit: Not sure why it’s still in ‘Find My’ though. Try removing it manually or erasing it again just to be safe.
@Ren
I explained the ‘Find My’ situation in another comment below, but thanks for the reassurance! I really appreciate the help.
What kind of data are you worried about? Did you do a full reset on the watch?
Here’s Apple’s official guide on how to wipe it properly: https://support.apple.com/en-us/102542
If ‘Find My’ is still on, your cousin might not be able to use the watch properly. You could tell him you need it back for a minute to remove it from your account—that’s actually true, and it’ll make things easier for both of you.
@Weston
If it’s still in ‘Find My,’ that’s a solid reason to ask for it back for a quick fix. Then you can be sure it’s fully erased.
@Weston
I tried getting it back under that excuse, but he left in a hurry for work, so he might already be messing with it. About ‘Find My’—it shows the watch was last active two days ago when I unpaired it, but it’s not listed under my devices in settings anymore. I already tried erasing it through ‘Find My,’ but it just says ‘erase pending.’ I’m wondering if the data actually wiped when I unpaired it and it’s just a glitch that it’s still showing up.
@THECAUCASIAN
If he can’t activate it because of ‘Find My’ and the activation lock is still on, he’ll definitely come back to you.
Does ‘Find My’ give you the option to erase or remove it completely?
Why did you sell your Apple Watch? They’re awesome.

I’ve always loved collecting watches, and I thought getting an Apple Watch for uni would be a good idea. But I realized it’s just not for me. I always have my phone or iPad with me, and I don’t really do activities where I need a smartwatch. Right now, a MacBook would be more useful for me as a student, so I sold the watch to help fund that.
@THECAUCASIAN
I still think you should’ve kept it. Apple Watches are great.
Maybe you left ‘Find My’ on?
