I’m really enjoying my new iPhone 15, but I’m sticking to a budget, so I’m looking for free apps only. Any must-haves that you guys recommend? Trying to save since I’ve got school, work, and bills to manage
Also have a 15 with 128GB. My lineup:
- Browsers: Arc, Chrome
- Photo Editing: Snapseed, Lightroom, VSCO
- Video Editing: CapCut, VN
- Social: Instagram, Threads, X
- Visual Inspiration: Behance, Artstation, Pinterest, DailyArt
- Utilities: Obsidian, Perplexity, Acrobat, VLC, DeepL
- Google: Maps, Translate, Arts & Culture, standard services
I don’t spend money on apps either, so here’s what I keep:
- blackmagic camera
- brave browser
- chatgpt
- citymapper
- google maps
- otter
- waze
What kind of apps do you need? For ad-free YouTube, try Video Lite.

Agreed on Video Lite. Also, Youtify is good for music streaming.
Apple Maps isn’t great in Europe. Google Maps has been way more accurate and up-to-date.
If you’re using Safari, check out these free extensions:
- Fullifier
- Hush
- PiP
- Rekt
- AMP Shockwave (free version of Implosion)
- Unsmartifier
- Web Inspector
They help cut out ads and improve browsing speed.
It really depends on what you’re into:
- Music: Spotify, YouTube Music, Apple Music
- Movies: Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney+
- Image Editing: Lightroom, VSCO, Snapseed
- Social Media: Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, X, Threads, TikTok
- General: Google Maps for travel
Hope this gives you some ideas .

But Netflix, Amazon, Disney, etc., all cost money…

True My bad! Maybe try Loklok, Bilibili, or Viu for free options.
Don’t bother with browsers like Brave or extra apps like Waze. Safari and Apple Maps do fine. Other than social apps, I’d go with ChatGPT, Flightly (if you travel), Apple Music/Spotify, and Blackmagic or Final Cut Camera.
@Arden
Agreed! Safari and Apple Maps work great
@Arden
Why ignore other options? People have choices! I use Brave on PC for great ad-blocking and Google Maps because Apple Maps isn’t as accurate in Europe. Not everything Apple makes is best for everyone.
@Rowen
I also use most Google apps except Chrome. Safari works fine for me, and Apple Maps is my pick because of CarPlay. It’s all personal preference. I use third-party apps for photos and videos too. Try what works for you.
@Rowen
If you want to support a browser that pushes crypto and has a CEO with political agendas, go ahead with Brave.

People can pick what works for them. Brave has solid ad-blocking, especially for YouTube. I don’t care about their extra stuff, just the browsing experience, which is fast and smooth. It’s easy to turn off anything you don’t want, so why be negative?
Tubidy fm for YouTube music downloads
Also emulators like Delta, Retroarch, or PPSSPP
Some free ones I like:
- CapCut
- Empower (for finances)
- Perplexity
- Spotify
I mostly stick to Apple’s default apps:
- Safari
- Maps
- Calendar
- Reminders
- Notes
One exception I make is Weather Underground, which I prefer over Apple’s weather app. Also, Shazam is a handy free app for music discovery.
@Hartley
You don’t need Shazam as a separate app. Just ask Siri to identify the song for you!
