Is the home button really gone for good…?

Feels weird knowing it’s never coming back. What do you guys think?

Not trying to start anything, but I can’t believe people are still talking about this in 2025.

Yeah, I thought people moved on from the home button ages ago.

Some just want the nostalgia… and internet points.

No more Touch ID… unless Apple adds a ‘groundbreaking’ sensor on the back of future iPhones.

Touch ID is still on base model iPads and the Air… it’s in the power button. The Pro models have Face ID. MacBooks still have it too.

@Terry
Yeah, I was talking about iPhones specifically, my bad.

Apple is working on an under-display fingerprint scanner, so there might still be hope.

@Flynn
All iPhone 16 models have that camera button, which could be a good spot for Touch ID… kind of like the iPads that have it in the power button.

My old Samsung had an under-display fingerprint scanner, so Apple could definitely do it. They just don’t want to.

I never liked Touch ID on my iPad… Face ID on my iPhone is way better.

For anyone who switched from Touch ID to Face ID… is it really that much better? What are the pros and cons?

Way better in my opinion. I switched from an iPhone 8 to a 14 a few months ago. Thought I’d hate it, but it works way better than expected.

My hands get sweaty a lot, so Face ID is way more reliable for me.

@Jody
Didn’t think about that. I was mad when they removed Touch ID too… thanks for sharing.

It’s not even close. I was unsure at first, but now I don’t even think about it. Just tap or swipe, and it works. No more failed unlocks with dirty hands. Only downside is sometimes it asks for a passcode randomly, but it happens so rarely that it doesn’t bother me.

Face ID is better because Apple’s fingerprint sensors were never great. My iPhone 6s and 8 had issues all the time, especially with wet hands. Face ID was a huge upgrade, but I do miss just unlocking my phone when it’s on the table. Switched to Android, and the fingerprint sensor works way better than it ever did on my iPhones.

@Mal
Yeah, Touch ID never worked well with wet hands.

Face ID has improved a lot. Not perfect, but much faster and more reliable than it used to be.

Face ID is fine, but it struggles with masks. It’s supposed to work, but mine never does. Touch ID was easier when driving, but now that I have CarPlay, it doesn’t matter much.
