I’m doing the monthly plan, so I’m paying 9 bucks right now. I’m a college student and I also have the Apple Pencil and Magic Keyboard.
I always think it’s better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it.

I got it for battery replacements, but if it’s just 99 dollars, I’ll break even after a year.
Yes, it’s worth it for me. The express replacement is the real benefit. They send you a new phone for 99 dollars, and you send back your broken one.

They wanted to put a hold for 1300 plus tax for an iPad replacement, seemed strange to me.
@Noor
Wait, did I understand that right? With AppleCare+ they charge you 1300+ if you break your iPad? That sounds kinda odd.

No, I just misunderstood. It’s a hold until you return the original device.
@Noor
Oh, got it. Well, that’s pretty standard. You could also go to an Apple store and swap the device there, I think.

Yeah, no issue now. My original post was more of a question, and someone explained it to me.
@Noor
The hold is to make sure you send back the right device or that it’s actually broken. I get it. I’m about to crack my screen on purpose before I send it back, so there’s no argument over if scratches count. Once they get your old one, the hold goes away after a few days. You get a perfect new phone with a fresh battery without leaving your house. What’s not to like?
It’s saved me a few times with my iPhones and iPad Pro. Definitely worth it.
A cool thing about AppleCare for iPads is you can cover one accessory too, like the Pencil or Keyboard. I had issues with my case, and they replaced it even though the iPad itself was fine. If you got them at the same time, it should be automatically covered, but maybe double-check if you plan to keep it.
If you can’t afford it, you can’t afford not to have it.

I’m just trying to save money here, that’s why I’m asking. Is it cheaper than just paying for a new battery?

It’s more than just an extended warranty. It covers accidental damage too, not just stuff the manufacturer messes up. It’s good for a battery replacement, but also if you drop your iPad and crack the screen, you’re covered for that too.
