I’m getting this error when logging out of iCloud on a second-hand Mac, how do I fix it?

Reinstall macOS through Internet Recovery.

Will it get locked or something like that? And why Internet Recovery?

No, only newer Macs with the T2 chip get activation lock. Internet Recovery is better because it updates your Mac during the process (use Option+Command+R).

No, only newer Macs with the T2 chip get activation lock. Internet Recovery is better because it updates your Mac during the process (use Option+Command+R).

Older Macs don’t have built-in recovery, so it’ll just reinstall macOS 10.9 Mavericks.

But that should still fix the iCloud lock issue.

Just follow the instructions? But honestly, it seems like a pretty old Mac.

I did follow them, but the error keeps coming up. Yeah, I know it’s old, just trying to get it ready to sell.

If it’s yours or you know who gave it to you, have them remove the Mac from iCloud on the website or app.

The account’s been gone for a while now, and I think this is the only device left on it unless there’s some other old one connected.

Try contacting Apple if you have the receipt.

Maybe check with Apple support and see if they can help you with this.

You’ll need the password for the account to remove it.

It’s not even asking for the password though?

Then I’m not sure what else you can do to fix this.

Here’s a link to Apple support that might help you out.
