How to Stop Auto-Saving Photos from Messages?

Hey folks,

My phone keeps auto-saving every photo I get in messages, and it’s cluttering up my gallery. Does anyone know how to turn this off? It’s driving me nuts!

Thanks for your help!

You can select which folders are automatically saved in Google Photos. Click your photo, then Photos, then Backup, and at the bottom, select whether you want to backup certain folders or none. In Photos, if you select a folder under Photos on device, you can toggle each folder that already contains pictures on or off.

Hello Emma, Disable iCloud Photos to stop automatic photo backups and prevent cluttering your library.

To do this, go to Settings > Photos and turn off iCloud Photos.

Regularly delete unwanted photos from the Photos app to keep your library organized. Additionally, consider using a messaging app that offers better control over photo saving.

I’ve faced this issue with my phone too, where it auto-saves every photo I receive in messages, which quickly clutters the gallery. To fix it, you usually need to go into your messaging app’s settings. On many Android devices, you can open the messaging app, go to Settings, find the “Auto-download” or “Auto-save” options, and turn off the setting for media files. For iPhones, go to Settings > Messages, and turn off “Save to Photos.” This should stop new photos from automatically saving to your gallery and help keep things organized.
