I have been using back tap since the 13Pro. I have double-tapped to lock the screen and triple-tapped to take a screenshot. I have now upgraded to the 15Pro, but the back tap problems remain from the 13Pro.
Sometimes it performs as intended with gentle taps; other times, striking the button with enough force also doesn’t start the functions; and occasionally, gently keeping the phone on the desk causes a triple tap. I haven’t discovered a reliable method for getting it to operate.
I’ve tapped on the Apple logo as well as the areas above it. The most of the time, tapping the corner of the camera island works, but it’s still not perfect.
I understand what you are going through currently because I once had the same issue and for sure I really suffered. The suffering made to search online and came around these tips which I can share with you freely:
Adjust sensitivity: Unfortunately, iOS doesn’t offer a direct way to adjust the sensitivity of the Back Tap. However, ensuring your taps are consistent in force and location can help. Try to tap in the same spot each time, ideally around the middle of the back of your phone.
Case considerations: If you are using a case, it might be affecting the sensitivity. Some cases, especially thicker ones, can interfere with the Back Tap feature. Try using a thinner case or no case at all to see if it improves performance.
Software updates: Make sure your iPhone is running the latest version of iOS. Apple often releases updates that can fix bugs and improve features like Back Tap.
Reset back tap settings: Sometimes, resetting the Back Tap settings can help. Go to Settings > Accessibility > Touch > Back Tap, and reassign your double-tap and triple-tap actions.
Clean the back of your phone: Ensure the back of your phone is clean and free from any debris or smudges that might affect the sensor’s ability to detect taps.
Restart your iPhone: A simple restart can sometimes resolve software glitches that might be affecting Back Tap.
Contact Apple support: If none of these solutions work, you can try contacting Apple Support for help.
Okay, I have found the most consistent way. But it’s a bit clumsy. Use the thumb of your tapping hand to hold the screen in place. So kinda “push it back” into the tapping direction. I’ve found this to be the best. My theory is that it locks the gyro’s countermotion and registers 3 solid taps! Good luck
