Got the 16e for $300 on prepaid… Is the modem really that good?

I just picked up the 16e for $300 on a prepaid plan. The modem seems decent, but I’m curious about what others think. Any opinions or experiences?

The modem is actually pretty solid. I noticed it was missing some bands when I checked the spec page, but turns out it’s just a few 2G bands. It’s not packing ultrawide bands, but most people don’t care about that anyway. I feel like Apple might be testing the waters with C1, and maybe C2 will come with the 17 lineup and have more stuff.

@Finn
I don’t see Apple pushing out C2 so soon. They might just release an upgraded version of C1 with a catchy new name.

Maybe something like C1 Pro or C1 Ultra.

Exactly. Spot on.

@Wynn
Or maybe C1 Max.

Yep, they’ll probably call it C2 anyway.

People keep talking about ultrawide band, but honestly, how often does it come up? Outside of the US, iPhones have never really had it.

In Japan, ultrawide band is pretty common. Android phones support it everywhere—stations, arenas, stadiums… all covered.

I usually get around 50Mbps on my data. My provider only has 5G in major cities, and it’s not ‘true’ 5G since I’m in Canada. Most places, I just get LTE.

50Mbps sounds like a dream to me. Over here in Russia, even in big cities, it’s rare to get more than 20Mbps.

Honestly, the modem isn’t an issue for me. I’m already getting better speeds than my home internet, and I don’t even pay for ultrawide band. Just having basic 5G is good enough for me.

What kind of plans don’t include ultrawide band? I’m on a $25 prepaid plan and get unlimited priority access.

@Landry
I use Visible by Verizon. For $25 a month, I get LTE and 5G, but no ultrawide band. That’s only on the $35 plan.

Gotcha. I’m with Total Wireless by Verizon. I signed up when they had the half-off promo for five years.

@Landry
Straight Talk only gives mmWave on the $55 and $65 plans. The $45 plan just has C-Band.

@Landry
I actually like Visible. I’m on the $45 plan and get ultrawide band when I switch to 5G, but I usually keep mine on LTE.

Does it really save energy, or what’s the big deal?

For a first-gen modem, it’s surprisingly decent and doesn’t drain too much battery.

How did you snag the 16e for $300… MetroPCS deal?
