Let’s chat about those nostalgic software updates and their animated settings gears. Did they really spin on the home screen or just inside the app menu?
It’s 2024. Smart phones have advanced so that they no longer use actual gears.
The gears moved inside the update menu not the icon itself.

No, they spun on the app icon too. I remember it clearly.

That sounds like a Mandela Effect. It never happened.
@Briar
There wasn’t an official feature, but there was definitely a Cydia tweak for this back in the day.
@Briar
I swear, 9-year-old me on my iPad 2 was mesmerized by those gears moving during an update.

That didn’t happen. I’ve been around since iPhone OS 1.0. It was only inside the settings menu.
@Freddie
We need to revisit some memories here. I think there was a Cydia tweak that did this, but not in the icon itself.
@Briar
Yeah, I thought the only animated icon was the clock.

You’re not alone. I remember seeing it too, right on the Home Screen while updates were downloading. It was cool but then they removed it.

The icon also spun, which was cool.
They only spun inside the app menu.
I remember that… it’s a classic.

I second that old meme.
Actually, I’ve never noticed or heard of it doing that until now.

It didn’t happen on the icon. The settings symbol in the update menu was the one that had the animation.
