Did your iPhone or Apple Watch alarm not work this morning?

Good morning everyone. Today we were lucky to wake up because our kid slammed the bathroom door in the hallway. At first, I thought it was a Saturday and was about to tell them to quiet down, but then I remembered it was Monday. My husband’s iPhone alarm didn’t go off, and my Apple Watch didn’t wake me up with a tap like it usually does. I didn’t even notice until he mentioned it. Has this happened to anyone else?

This has happened to me before. My iPhone alarm sometimes plays at such a low volume that I can’t hear it while sleeping. Now I set multiple alarms: one on my phone, another on my Apple Watch, one on Alexa, and a backup alarm clock in the bathroom. That one is super loud, so I only use it as a last resort.

@Lennon
You should try turning the alert volume to the max and disabling the option to change it with the side buttons.

I like having the option to adjust my ringer volume sometimes though.

@Nash
I barely change mine, maybe twice a year. If I do, I just adjust it through the settings.

@Lennon
You can set up a shortcut to automatically increase the alert volume at night. That way, even if you forget, it’ll still work.

This seems to be happening more often lately. I’m glad I usually wake up before my alarm.

Did your phone update or restart overnight? Sometimes these devices need you to log back in for things to work again. Honestly, I’d recommend getting a real alarm clock. Smart devices can fail when you least expect it.

@Wilkie
I didn’t update it overnight. I don’t leave my phone charging at night to keep the battery in good shape.

Makes sense. It’s unlucky this happened, though. It’s happened to me too, but my partner also sets alarms, so it’s never been a huge problem.

If you’re using the Sleep Schedule alarm, that could be the issue. It’s been unreliable for me. I’d suggest creating a regular alarm in the Clock app.

I do use the Sleep Schedule so I don’t forget to set it. It’s been reliable for years. This is the first time it failed.

@Bay
Yeah, same here. It worked perfectly for a long time, but one day it just started acting up.

Stories like this are why I bought a proper alarm clock. I can’t trust a phone with something as important as waking me up for work.

I use my Alexa for alarms and sometimes my phone as a backup. But honestly, an old-school alarm clock is the way to go. Once, my Android phone restarted itself while I was trying to use Google Pay. That’s when I realised I couldn’t rely on these devices.

This gets mentioned in forums about Apple stuff fairly often. It’s rare given how many people use these devices, but it happens. The odd thing is that two separate devices failed for you at the same time. My alarms went off fine this morning, like they always do. If they didn’t, I’d probably sleep until noon.

@Shiloh
Exactly! That’s what felt so weird. Both of them failed at the same time. I don’t think either of us has ever had that happen before.

My Apple Watch failed to wake me once because it logged out. I think I wore it too loose, and it disconnected.

This happened to me twice in one week, but then it never happened again. I’ve been using a regular alarm clock since.

My daughter had the same issue this morning. It’s not the first time either.
