Apple Watch changed my life… or at least my step count!

The biggest surprise since getting an Apple Watch is that it tells me I walk way more each day than my phone used to. Turns out, I don’t carry my phone everywhere in the house. All those trips to the bathroom and kitchen really add up!

So, I guess I’m getting more exercise than I thought. Maybe I’m not as out of shape as I feared. Sweet!

I noticed the same thing! The Apple Watch kind of pushes you to make small efforts to move more. Things you wouldn’t even think about unless you were watching your energy levels. It sounds silly trying to explain it to someone who hasn’t used a smartwatch, but it makes sense if you have. Those tiny habits add up, and the little rewards (even if you pretend they don’t matter) encourage the behavior. Slowly, you become more active. Then you figure out exactly how much walking it takes to earn a cookie and bake that into your daily life. Free cookie!

I used to look for the fastest way to do everything. Now I happily take the long way. A little competition with myself is a good thing.

@Amari
I’m the opposite. The third time my watch told me to “STAND UP!”, I knew I would always ignore those prompts.

Yeah, I don’t really care about the watch’s nagging, but I find the overall stats motivating when I bother to look at them.

@Amari
Same here. All those friendly computer reminders are easy to ignore. But the raw numbers? I can’t resist checking those.

You should balance that out by walking less and driving more.

Just kidding, welcome to the club!

My activity streaks are way up since I brought my old SSS2 back from the dead. And even higher since I got a U2. What’s the point of buying an apple watch?
Apple is paying me back for my “investment”.

My phone just sits on the table all day now.

The Downvoter Telepathy Bot says:

  1. “If you didn’t think your watch would track more steps, you’re an idiot.”
  2. “More steps on the watch doesn’t mean you actually walked further. Your thinking is idiotic.”

That’s great! Why are my step counts different between the Apple Watch Fitness app and the Apple Health app? Shouldn’t they be the same since I wear the watch all the time? I just got my S10 and haven’t calibrated it outside yet. I don’t remember this with my old AW. Will calibrating it outside fix it?

@Reagan
Double check the time periods. Sometimes one app is updated to a specific time, and the other is behind.

I’ve seen it stay wrong for hours, even at the end of the day. The final numbers are always different. It’s frustrating! I hope it fixes itself after some outdoor walks.

@Reagan
If both devices are showing data for today (even at slightly different times), then look at previous days. The numbers should match for yesterday and earlier.

Thanks! I went for a walk outside, and it seems to have fixed the problem. My health app and fitness app are now synced!
