Apple has decided not to approve an adult app for the EU. People are talking about whether this is fair or not. What do you think?
I don’t approve of ads either.
If they hadn’t made a big deal about it, no one would have even noticed.
This is just making people more curious. Just let people watch what they want in peace.
The title is misleading. There’s a difference between ‘not approving’ and outright banning.
Why would anyone need an app for this? Safari exists.

Same reason people use a YouTube app instead of just opening the website.

It’s also easier to manage history this way.

This forum literally has a tab for this kind of thing…
If the app went through Apple’s Notarization process, then technically Apple did approve it in some way.
> Once the app version is approved, an alternative distribution package is automatically generated.
So if it passed that step, it’s fair to say Apple approved it. Maybe not for the App Store, but still.
It seems like the developers took advantage of Apple’s wording, but Apple should’ve been clearer about this.
@Val
This is just sideloading, which the EU requires.

Yeah, but my point is that it looks like the app passed Apple’s Notarization process.
That process is like a lighter version of the App Store review, mostly checking for security risks instead of App Store rules.
@Val
It’s being distributed through an alternative store, so it’s not something Apple fully approved.
It’s on the AltStore PAL. https://fosstodon.org/@altstore/113940550587737112
@Thane
Yeah, that’s exactly what I’m saying.
The app passed Apple’s Notarization process, which is used for sideloading.
Here’s the official page explaining it again
Description from the page:
> If you’ve opted into alternative distribution for customers in the European Union, you can choose to make your app version eligible for distribution on alternative app marketplaces or websites only by selecting to have it evaluated based on the Notarization Review Guidelines (a subset of the App Review Guidelines).
Wait… did the EU actually make their own adult app?

No, some developers made a porn app and put it on the Alt Store PAL.

No, that’s completely wrong.

The EU made Apple allow sideloading and third-party stores. That’s why this app even exists outside the App Store.
