Apple just announced they’re setting up a store in downtown Detroit. No exact date yet, but it’s ‘coming soon.’ What’s everyone’s thoughts on this?
Before anyone starts with the usual takes… Detroit has changed a LOT in the last decade. Feels like a completely different place now.
If you’re surprised or worried, you probably still picture it how it was in the early 2000s, which isn’t the case anymore.
@Logan
I visited twice—once in 2003 and then again in 2023. The difference is unreal. Downtown feels alive, people are out and about, the food is great, and I even took a city bike ride to Michigan Central.
Anyone saying Detroit is still the same as before hasn’t been back in years. Can’t wait to visit again this summer.
@Logan
Downtown Detroit has more character than most big cities in the South. It’s honestly nicer than some of them too.
@Logan
I used to go out in Detroit back when it was still rough, and it felt like something bad happened every time. My friend went recently for the NFL Draft, and he was shocked at how different it is now. Says it feels like a brand-new city.
Detroit has always had creative and passionate people, but now it finally looks like a city that matches that energy. Seeing crime stats drop and businesses moving in is a great sign.
@Logan
Detroit is honestly one of the most creative cities. People repurpose old buildings in the coolest ways, and there’s a serious DIY spirit here.
Food is on another level, and the pizza? Easily the best in the country. Nothing beats Detroit-style.
Cleveland is full of chain restaurants and places meant for rich people. Detroit feels unique—bars built on old conveyor belts, pizza places with floors from old bowling alleys, Airbnbs with chandeliers made from recycled materials. The whole place is like a post-industrial paradise if you take the time to explore.
Too bad they’re getting an Apple Store though… Detroit deserved better haha.
@Cameron
You made a lot of good points, but I have to challenge you on the pizza. Detroit’s great, but New Haven still takes the crown.

Michigan & Trumbull made me a believer. I’d travel to Detroit just for that place. Try it next time you’re in town.
@Cameron
Alright, I’ll check it out .

Detroit even has decent New Haven-style pizza. Check out Tomatoes Apizza if you’re ever around.
@Cameron
Lived in Chicago for years, and I gotta say, Detroit is the second-best city in the Midwest. It’s not even close. The energy there is unreal.
@Cameron
Best pizza in the country? Come on now, be serious.

Go to Michigan & Trumbull, then let me know what you think.
@Cameron
Hearing all this makes me want to visit Detroit.
@Cameron
People aren’t ready to hear it, but every word of this is true.
@Cameron
Guess we’ll be seeing influencers flooding Detroit soon, showing us what we’ve been missing.

Yeah, it’s only a matter of time before Detroit becomes the next ‘hidden gem’ influencers won’t shut up about.
@Sage
Honestly, it already started. Some travel vloggers have been hyping it up for a while now.

Detroit’s got everything—art, food, history. It just needed people to start noticing again.
@Logan
Seeing Detroit packed during the NFL Draft was wild. Same thing during Lions games—feels like a whole different city compared to a decade ago.
