Apple might launch the new iPhone SE next week… What’s new?

Apple could be dropping a new iPhone SE as soon as next week. It’s expected to have a design similar to the iPhone 14, an A18 chip, a bigger screen, and USB-C. What do you think? Would this be a good upgrade?

I wonder if this will take away sales from the regular iPhone 16 since the screen size is supposed to be the same. Is the only difference a single camera instead of two? Probably no Dynamic Island, no camera button, and no action button? I can’t read the full article because it’s behind a paywall.

I think this will make people with older iPhones upgrade to something newer that isn’t crazy expensive and doesn’t use the iPhone 8 design anymore.

Yeah, I can see that. I used to work for Verizon, and a lot of people came in asking for the SE. Most said they wanted it for three reasons: price, size, and the home button. Face ID is great, but I remember how people struggled with gesture navigation when the iPhone X first came out. Some were really upset that Apple got rid of the home button. I liked the bigger screen with no chunky bezel, but it all comes down to preference.

Watch them give it just 64GB of storage.

I think it’ll start at $499, maybe even higher outside the US, but with 128GB this time. With inflation, they’ll make it look like a price hike, but people will justify it since the current 128GB model costs $479.

@Vale
I bet the iPhone 17 will have a 120Hz screen, which would create a gap between the base iPhone and the SE this year.

The problem now is they need to find a way to make the Pro models stand out more.

@Mason
Maybe they’ll go with different tiers: Budget SE, Standard, Thin Air, and Pro (better battery, better materials, more RAM, better GPU, maybe a low-reflectivity screen, Always-On Display, and a slightly bigger screen).

@Mason
120Hz being a ‘Pro’ feature is only true for Apple. Other companies just give their flagship phones the best cameras and maybe more RAM/storage.

@Vale
SE models usually replace iPhones that are two generations old, so this would replace the iPhone 14. Other than having a processor that supports Apple’s AI features, it probably won’t be better than the iPhone 15. It’s basically an iPhone 14 without the ultra-wide camera but with the iPhone 16’s processor, main camera, and USB-C.

@Fon3
So it’s better than the 15, which can’t even run Apple’s AI features? And the SE gets more RAM? Makes no sense to buy the 15 now.

@Vale
Maybe this means the regular iPhones will finally get ProMotion next year.

If they price it right, this would be an easy buy for me.

So the SE gets Apple’s new AI features, but my iPhone 15 Plus is already too outdated?

Yeah, it’s really frustrating.
