I didn’t think much about my phone being old until I couldn’t update to iOS 18 recently. The phone works fine, and I’ve never had to replace anything. I bought it at Walmart for $500 back in 2019, and it’s still going strong. Sure, other models have better cameras, but apart from that and the iOS update issue, I don’t see a reason to upgrade.
What’s the oldest iPhone people are still using daily?
I still use my XR, and it’s running iOS 18.1.1. Not sure why you can’t update.
The only reason I updated was because my Apple Watch needed it. Honestly, I wouldn’t recommend updating because it slowed my phone down. For security, though, it’s good to have the latest version.

Has your phone finished indexing? When I had my XR, it would feel slow for a week or two after an update while it reindexed in the background. I only switched to a 13 last month because I thought 5G would fix my terrible connection, but no luck there. At least I got the phone on a discount.
You asked about the oldest models still in use? I’m on a 7, one of my classmates uses a 6, my chem tutor at cram school has a 5S, and another classmate uses a 4S.
We’re mostly kids using hand-me-down phones from parents or older relatives. Unless you do banking or other secure stuff on your phone, I’d say there’s no need to upgrade until it’s cheaper to replace than repair.

Ah, I see what you mean now. I always pronounce it like the letter X, which might not be right. But honestly, if they wanted it called Ten-R, they should’ve named it 10R.

Totally agree. I bring it up to be annoyingly picky because I think Apple made a bad marketing choice.
I’m still on an XR, but I downgraded it back to iOS 17. iOS 18 was too glitchy and kept making my phone crash because it didn’t have enough memory. Honestly, it was the best decision I made. My phone feels faster now, the battery lasts longer, and it runs smoother overall.
Just to clarify, iOS 18 works on the XR. I’ve got both an XR and a 15 Pro. Even though I upgraded to the 15 Pro, I still use the XR as a backup when the 15 Pro is charging. It’s a little laggy but still pretty solid. It even handled the latest updates without any major issues. Honestly, the XR is probably my favourite iPhone.
