Does anyone know more details about this? I saw something but not much info is out yet.
Is it free or will we need to pay for a subscription?

The desktop version is a subscription model, so I assume the iOS version will be the same. On desktop, you can keep using it after your subscription ends, but you won’t get updates. That might not be an option for iOS.
@Val
I really miss the days when you could just buy software outright. Subscriptions are frustrating.

I get it, subscriptions are annoying. But a lot of software nowadays wouldn’t survive without them unless it cost an insane amount upfront. Companies need to cover licensing, staff, and development costs.
@Rey
I don’t buy that argument. It worked fine before—just pay for upgrades when a new version comes out.

I’m not saying it’s perfect. Greed plays a role too. But not every subscription is purely about profit. Some are just the result of how things have shifted.
@Rey
It’s mostly about profit, though. Big companies are under pressure to show profits for investors, so they squeeze us with subscriptions. It’s the same with everything—groceries, gas, you name it.
@Rey
If the software is actively being improved, subscriptions make sense. But I’ve seen apps that haven’t been updated in years and still charge monthly fees. It’s ridiculous.

Totally agree. Charging for nothing new is just wrong.

You can still buy the desktop version outright if you want.

Subscriptions can keep software improving over time. Without them, companies often just stop updating after a while.
@Kennedy
That’s true. Once the initial support period ends, it’s usually radio silence from developers.

For this case, a subscription might be justified. They probably need to cover ongoing costs for running the service if it’s not fully on-device.
@Val
It’s not really a subscription. You get a year of updates, but you can keep using the version you have forever.

Looks like it’ll be free with in-app purchases.
Here’s some info I found:
