Every iPad seems to have a battery issue at some point. Mine started draining fast after an update. Lesson learned—never update right away.
Waiting for reviews or a more stable update can be smart. Lately, Apple’s updates have been hit or miss.

Haha, yeah, Apple updates can be so unpredictable.
Just got an iPad 9 a couple of weeks ago, and the notes app drains battery like crazy.
I played Asphalt 8 for 2 hours, and it only dropped 15%, with no overheating. But if I take notes for 2 hours, it drains 50%, and the device heats up. It’s weird, and I don’t even keep the brightness that high.
Despite that, I really love this iPad. I’ve been on Android for years, but iPadOS is so smooth. Wish they’d fix these issues though.
I had a similar issue. Lowering brightness helped a lot, plus disconnecting the Apple Pencil when I’m not using it. If left connected, it seems to drain battery faster.
