Anyone else's iPad Air M2 battery draining super fast?

Basically what the title says.
I’ve only been using the iPad for note-taking (GoodNotes app) and it dropped from 80% to 20% in under 3 hours.
I use the Apple Pencil and keep the screen pretty bright, but this seems like way too much battery drain :confused:

How high is your brightness? If it’s around 80-100%, this sounds pretty normal to me.

Yeah, it’s roughly that range. You might be right.

iPads are strange like that. I keep mine around 10-15% brightness, and it lasts me all day. Stores really show off how bright they can get, but at max brightness, you can’t go more than a few hours without charging.

Reducing brightness helped me too. Mine went from lasting 4 hours to around 10 after I dropped it to about 30%.

Same here. I noticed the brightness was set at 50% and switching to half saved so much battery. Also, if you’re using the Apple Pencil, disconnecting it when you’re done (turn off Bluetooth) can really help. Leaving it connected drains the battery a lot.

I’ll try lowering the brightness like you suggested and see if it helps.

GoodNotes and Apple Notes were both draining my battery, and I thought it was a hardware issue. I even replaced my iPad, but the new one did the same. I switched to Notability, and the battery drain and overheating stopped.

@Oli
Maybe I’ll give Notability a try later on.

Taking notes can be a battery drain, especially with high brightness. Sounds normal honestly.

I’m not an expert, but I did see online that others have similar issues, while some people get a much longer battery life. So, I’m not sure.

@Oli
It depends on the setup and what apps you’re running. For example, YouTube drains the battery faster than Netflix or Apple TV+. A lot of people also turn off background app refresh to help.

The battery on this device can feel weak compared to a MacBook. If you’re comparing it to a MacBook, maybe an iPad isn’t the right choice.

My M2 Air eats through battery way faster than my Air 4.

It’s not necessarily just the chip.

@Dru
Right… it’s not just about the chip’s power.

@Dru
You seem to forget the chip doesn’t run at full 25 watts all the time. It’s more complex than that, and downvotes won’t change that.

Edit: You could delete and re-post like last time, but it won’t change the facts.

@Micah
Maybe you’re overlooking something?

The chip does use more power than the A series, even if it’s not full power 24/7.

It also has a bigger battery, but that doesn’t necessarily balance it out. I’d say let’s agree it’s a trade-off between performance and battery life.

GoodNotes really does take a toll on battery.

Every iPad seems to have a battery issue at some point. Mine started draining fast after an update. Lesson learned—never update right away.
