Anyone else with burn-in on their OLED screen this fast?

I noticed some temporary image retention on my OLED screen after just a week, but now some static parts (like the navigation bar and WiFi icons) seem burned in permanently. I’ve reached out to Apple support to see about a replacement. Is anyone else seeing this happen so quickly? I’ve never had this issue with OLED screens before. Could it be a bad batch of Samsung displays? Not sure.

I’ve had mine since launch, and so far, no issues at all.

Good to hear .

Are you sure it’s a Samsung panel? I heard they’re using both Samsung and LG for these screens.

No way to confirm without opening it up, I guess. This one is a Plus model, not a Pro.

If you’re curious, you can find out using a sysdiagnose tool on your phone. Here’s how:

  1. Press volume up, volume down, and the lock button all at once for a second. The phone will vibrate.
  2. Wait a bit, then go to Settings > Privacy and Security > Analytics and Improvements > Analytics Data.
  3. Look for a file named sysdiagnose_XXXXXXXX and save it to your files.
  4. Extract the file, find the ioreg folder, and open IODeviceTree. Use the search feature to find raw-panel and note the serial number.

Once you have that, you can match it to the manufacturer.

@Tobin
How’d you learn to do this? That’s impressive.

Learned it from others on this forum.

@Tobin
After getting the serial number, how do you know which manufacturer made it?

Check the first three characters:

  • G9N: Samsung, best quality.
  • G9Q: Samsung, second-best.
  • GVC: LG, decent but not as good as G9N/Q.
  • G9P: Samsung, lower quality.
  • GH3: LG, lowest quality.

That should help identify the maker.

@Tobin
Oh wow, I didn’t realise this was a thing. Thanks for sharing.

No problem .

@Tobin
Thanks for the info! My 13 Pro has G9Q, and my 15 has G9P. Both are Samsung, right?

Good to know. Appreciate it .

@Dakota
There’s actually a simpler way to check. Mine turned out to be LG.

Haven’t had this happen to mine. Maybe it’s just a bad display, or you left the screen on too long?

By the way, happy anniversary on the forum .

I’d hope I’m not that careless… but thanks for the wishes .

@Dakota
No worries, it happens to everyone sometimes.

I’ve got a launch-day model too. Mine has some burn-in after about a month, but it’s not super noticeable unless I look really closely.
