Hey everyone, this is my first post here. I know iOS 18 has been out for like two weeks, but my iPad (M4, 13-inch) doesn’t show the option to update. I don’t know why, and I’m wondering if anyone else is having the same problem? My friend with an M1 iPad Pro has it already, and I’ve got it on my iPhone. Could this be a regional thing? I’m in Latam. Any info would help!
The iOS 18 update for M4 iPad Pros is on hold right now because of a problem where it bricks the device. It should be sorted out soon, and you’ll be able to update.

Thanks for the heads-up.

lol “soon”
Yeah, Apple pulled the update for the M4 iPad because it was causing a bug that bricked the device.

I usually wait for a few updates before installing a new OS. It’s risky to install it on day one.
@Zaire
Even after they release a fix, I’ll probably still wait a week or so.

Doesn’t seem like they’re in a rush to fix it, honestly.

I think they’re waiting for iOS 18.0.1, which should be out next week. At least, I hope.
Two weeks and nothing? That’s so frustrating. How can they not figure out why M4 iPads are bricking?
The public beta for iOS 18.1 is available now.
iOS 18.1 beta works great on my M4. You might want to try that.

How do I do that?

Not sure if it’s a public beta yet, but you can sign up for Apple’s developer program. Once you’re in, you’ll see an option under ‘General → Software Update → Beta Updates’. I might be a bit off here, I’ve had a few drinks.
@Madden
Make sure to stay hydrated and grab a snack. Thanks for the advice! I went to the Apple Store for help, but they couldn’t force an update. They offered to exchange the iPad, but transferring data is a hassle since my iPhone is already on iOS 18, and the iPad is stuck on 17.7.
@Bowie
Two ibuprofen and a lot of water always work for me, though my stomach hates me for it.

This ^^
knocks on wood I updated to iOS 18 right when it came out, and everything’s been working fine for me.
I put iOS 18 on my M4 11 when the release candidate came out, before all the bricking issues. No problems so far.
