Anyone else having iPhone brightness issues during long Uber rides?

Whenever I drive for Uber, especially on long trips, my iPhone screen brightness is way too high. It’s almost impossible to see the display with sunglasses on. Anyone else having this problem? Any ideas on how to fix it?

Try cooling it down. It might help.

Yeah, your phone is probably lowering the screen brightness because it’s getting too hot.

Using GPS, charging, and high brightness all make the phone heat up. If it’s also getting hit by the sun, that just makes it worse. It’s like your phone becomes an oven

@Nori
I use Waze and YouTube Music a lot on long drives. Once I got a MagSafe vent-mounted charger and stuck my phone near an AC vent, the overheating stopped. It also stayed fully charged the whole time.

Which iPhone are you using? Do you have any screen auto-brightness settings enabled? Also, any reason why you don’t just use the Uber app through your car’s CarPlay screen?

Yeah, sounds like overheating is the issue. Try turning on the AC and pointing it at the back of your phone. That should help.

Turn off the ‘Reduce White Point’ option. I had the same problem and it took me forever to figure out what was wrong.

Go to Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size.

That setting is off by default, but I think overheating is more likely the problem here.

@Poe
I know, but I turned it on randomly and then forgot about it for over a year.

Ah, I use it at night when reading in bed because the normal lowest brightness isn’t dim enough for me. Then the next morning, I forget it’s on and wonder why my screen looks so dark, ha!

Here’s a placeholder image link, but it seems unrelated to the problem.

If you’re wearing polarized sunglasses, that might be making it harder to see your screen. I switched to non-polarized glasses for driving and it made a difference.
