Anyone else facing issues with iPhone 15 after long gaming sessions?

You should have gotten a screen protector right from the start to avoid issues like this. It could happen if there’s any kind of coating on the screen.

That might not make a difference.

@Blaine
How can a screen protector not help against friction from use?

A friend of mine had a similar issue with his protector. When he was about to change it, he realised the scratch wasn’t on the protector but on the actual screen.

The oleophobic coating probably wore off from the part of the screen you use most often.

So, your thumb is rubbing that marked spot for hours every day and that’s what caused the damage? Is that right?

Yes, that’s correct.

If it’s just the coating that’s damaged, you could try removing it and applying a new one.

This isn’t uncommon. I’ve had the same issue too.

It happened to me on my last phone but it was much worse. That’s why I started using a screen protector with my iPhone 15.

I can’t imagine gaming 3-4 hours daily on my phone. After just one PUBG game, my right pinkie hurts from holding it.

This post is a bit unclear. Did you use a physical controller on that part of the screen, or is that just where your thumb rests while gaming? If it’s your thumb, iPhone screens usually don’t get scratched by fingers. Maybe something else scratched it? Did you ever drop the phone or put it in with keys or other objects?

@Jesse
I don’t use any physical controller, just my thumb. I haven’t dropped the phone or put anything sharp near it.

You probably wore the oleophobic coating off. I have the same spot on my screen protector. That’s why it’s good to use one.

This isn’t really about iPhone 15 gaming, but I’m curious, what games are you playing? If you’re playing more demanding ones like Wuwa, ZZZ, or similar, it could be causing the phone to heat up a lot, especially if your fingers are sweaty. Try using a screen protector and getting a cooler to help with the heat next time.

Could it be that the liquid crystal layer was affected? Maybe an OLED issue?

If you’re gaming that much, I’d suggest getting a controller.

I had the same issue on my iPhone 8 Plus when I played Fortnite. A round mark appeared where I held the joystick. I even spoke to Apple support and they told me it wasn’t covered under warranty because it wasn’t a defect. I didn’t even play for hours at a time, just after work in the evening.
