I have a 2017 model Added some extra RAM a while ago and while it is slow to start up, it still works great

Do you have the Fusion Drive That might cause the slowness Mine from 2017 feels as responsive as my M2 MacBook Air for everyday tasks and I even use it for Logic Pro and light Final Cut work
@Zuri
I do Just watched a video on macsales.com about replacing it How scary was removing the screen

It gets easier the more you do it

It was pretty scary but if you are careful you’ll be fine Also, taking out the power supply to get the main board out was a challenge Turning off the Fusion Drive lets you use the hard drive for extra storage I ended up removing the drive entirely I now have a 1TB SSD and another 1TB external drive connected by Thunderbolt Lots of storage for me

Although the iMac is gone (donated and still going strong in a school), I’m typing on the old 2011 keyboard from it And I’m still using the 2011 rechargeable AAs too

I have a 2010 model I use as a TV in the basement too Works perfectly The CPUs are pretty weak on the 27 inch iMacs with the Core 2 Duos but I really love them

I had one of those, i7, 32 GB RAM, 4 GB video, 500 GB SSD I regretted selling it after I bought my Mac Studio The Studio is faster but the iMac just looks so much nicer and is so much neater on my desk
@Sage
I’m trying to wait for the Studio M3 standard I’ll keep this beast as an internet device instead of my Logic main computer Apple makes it hard for small business creators like me to thrive I want less cables, not to spend 10k on a setup Not having a 27 inch all-in-one that can be upgraded really bothers me

Just bought one the other day The Fusion Drive is decent but I’m working on the best way to boot from an external SSD

You should remove the Fusion Drive and replace it with a standard SSD If you plan to use it for a long time Fusion Drives are a ticking time bomb and slow things down
@Milan
I’d love to do this but I’m afraid of breaking that nice screen while doing so I think I’ll stick to using external drives and just keep the internal for storage and torrents

You could find someone local to do it for about $100 + parts I’ve heard it’s pretty easy if you know what you’re doing
@Gale
From my experience, it just takes practice and being careful I have broken a few displays when starting out The bottom corners and around the webcam can be tricky
