Bought the exact same one yesterday!

People will hate me on this, but unless you are coding, or doing video editing, as long as you have good RAM management habits you are totally fine with 8GB for day to day use!

I think the machine you got is great and gonna last for a long time!!

Same boat here. People are blatantly incorrect about average usage patterns and minimum ram requirements for modern mac architecture. And frankly speaking, most who degrade the base model have never used it, fomo others to getting more addons because they fomo’d themselves for the same reason, and never ever use most of that extra hardware. It’s also in apple’s best interest that this remains the status quo. 10 years ago this misconception would have all been a different story, but now? Naw. Apple Silicon knows what it’s doing.

@Arley
Still have mine from when it first released.

It runs just as good if not better than the day I got it.

@Arley
Still a very capable machine! Especially for the price! Enjoy your MacBook!

@Arley
I bought the same machine 4 days back. Love it!

@Arley
Bought mine last year, not once have I regretted the base-spec as someone who doesn’t edit video or produce music

@Arley
In the similar boat. Got M1 Air for really cheap this year.

I needemdsomething light, portable and with a stellar battery life. Already have a gaming desktop and a gaming laptop and I didn’t want a device to replace those.

I needed it for excel, teams and some web-based apps when it comes to work and for private use, I needed it for photo editing, browsing, video calls, or an episode of tv show and such.

And I love it. M1 is plenty powerful for these tasks and it’s usually the computer I use the most. And I often use it docked as well - I just love not hearing the sound of fans.

@Arley
Thanks for sharing. They make it for a reason. That reason is you and like 700000 other people. Enjoy the endorphins of a new device. Totes jelley

Just sent back my m3 pro 16 inch as I realised was never going to need all that power , as I’m not a video maker or musician or a photographer I’m a gamer so sent it back and spent the £1800 on a gaming pc

I’m developing a VR Game with Unity on the original MB Pro 13inch with 16GB of RAM. Only thing that lags somewhat is Blender, depending on the materials. Everything else runs just fine. You will be happy with it.

What would you recommend for a better blender performance?

Spec’d up 16 inch Pro. Blender relies hard on GPU, especially for previewing. But to be fair, it isn’t unusable, just slower… You also have to be patient when baking too. So, I am not sure a few thousand extra would even be justified, for me anyways. I like the portability of the 13 inch too much to compromise that for the 16inch.

Good for you? I don’t see people knocking this laptop model. Quite the opposite in fact.

>I can already feel people starting to type 8GB this that in the comments lol

Like 2% of people on this sub-reddit will disagree that this is a great purchase. I was saddened actually when when my niece bought an M3 MBA after asking my opinions on which Mac to buy as her first laptop. I strongly suggested the M1 but… she’s 18 and wants the new shiny thing despite her needs being the most basic shit you can do :woozy_face::man_shrugging:t2:. The M1 would have been perfect, and like $300 cheaper.

Buy it from her when she goes for the new M4!
