Yes, I bought a base M1 Air in 2024

Seeing way too many people worry about M2 vs M3 or if they should wait for the M4 in Spring 2025. Well let me tell you this, I got this base M1 Air in 2024! (I can already feel people starting to type 8GB this that in the comments lol).

Long story short, my M1 Pro MacBook Pro is malfunctioning, and it made me rethink whether I genuinely needed all that power. The answer is no, so I got this for $700 brand new.

Here’s to at least 5 more years for this little but very capable unit!

what’sa wrong with your M1 Pro MacBook Pro?

Agreed. I’ve got a PC for anything that needs horsepower, but picked up an M2 Air a couple years ago and it’s beyond powerful for what I need a laptop for. Key term being what I actually need it for. Far too many people get caught up in the hype and either ignore or overestimate their actual ‘needs’.

What type of malfunction are you facing with your M1 MBP?

What do you use it for? I’m also wondering between Air vs Pro.

I bought my M3 new for $849 at Best Buy. I wouldn’t pay more than $600 for the M1.

I got my OG M1 MBA three years ago (albeit 16/512), nevertheless I know people who have the base version and all of us are very happy with it…
That said, if I may ask, what is malfunctioning in your M1 Pro? I have to say I rarely hear that someone has serious problems with a Macbook that is (at most) three years old!

I’m running a 12.9 4th gen and see no need right now to upgrade to M anything so the debate between 1, 2, 3 or 4 is meaningless to me.

There will always be something better along the line, doesn’t mean the current or previous generations aren’t perfectly adequate for the job.

I swapped an M1 MacBook Pro that lived on my desk (carrying a heavy $3k laptop didn’t feel right) for an M2 MacBook Air a year ago and have zero regrets. It’s right for my use case, and I got an M2 Studio for power use. :man_shrugging:t3:

How is it malfunctioning? Curious because I’m looking at buying a used M1 Pro or Max

@Arley
I think it depends on what you need it for. I did the same this year upgrading from 2016 Macbook and it’s great for how I use it.

Bought mine 4 years ago, and I have no urge to upgrade any time soon. It’s a great machine.
