Why is the Paint Chipping Off My Base 16?

I bought a black Base 16 on September 20th. I’ve been using it with a case and a screen guard, and I haven’t dropped it. I clean it with a microfiber cloth every other day. But yesterday, when I was cleaning, I noticed a few tiny silver spots near the camera control button. At first, I thought it was dirt, but after wiping it, I realised that the paint had chipped off. I’m really annoyed by the spots. Is there anything I can do to fix it?

This is why I recommend getting the white version or natural titanium pro instead.

I’ve always preferred black phones, and all the ones I’ve owned before have been black. This is my first iPhone, and I never had this problem with my previous Android phones. Lesson learned though.

@Greer
I was thinking about getting it in black too, but now I’m reconsidering. Should I just go for white?

I went to the Apple service center, and they said they can’t do anything about it for now because it’s considered cosmetic damage. But they might start a program if a lot of iPhone users report the same issue. Honestly, I wouldn’t recommend going for black at this point.

Try taking it to the Apple Store.

They didn’t do anything. They said it’s cosmetic damage and that if enough people report the issue, they’ll start a program to fix it for free.

@Greer
Which store did you go to?

If possible, take it back and get a replacement soon.

Do you think they’ll do anything about it? Won’t they just call it cosmetic damage?

They do replace phones for cosmetic issues, so it should be fine.

@Tegan
Thanks, I’ve booked an appointment for Tuesday. Fingers crossed.

They won’t do anything, don’t waste your time.

They won’t help. Cosmetic damage isn’t covered under warranty.

I have two silicone cases and a MagSafe TPU one made by a company called ‘Gripp’.

Can you go to the dialer and enter *#07#? When you press the dial button, it opens a page where you can scroll down and see where it’s made. Is it India or China?
