So you’ve been using iOS for the first time but got your iPhone two months ago? Sounds like someone installed a beta version and didn’t tell you.

That makes no sense. It’s his first iPhone. Doesn’t matter if he got it yesterday or two months ago.
@Kavi
It’s just weird to say ‘first time using iOS’ when you’ve had the phone for months.

Two months is still new. Feels fresh for a while.

I had this issue. Contacted AppleCare and it turned out accessibility settings were using the mic. Go to settings and check for voice shortcuts and sound recognition. I turned them off and the mic indicator disappeared.
@Terry
Mine was already off. I just did a force restart and it’s gone now.
Do you have the Google app installed? Not Chrome, just the Google app. I had this happen, and it kept doing weird background stuff. Deleted it and switched to Safari.

Yeah, I have Google, but after a force restart, the mic thing is gone for now.

Wait… yeah, when I click it, it shows up under privacy settings.

Does it show what’s using the mic?

Nope
Maybe just a bug? Did you try restarting?
If you have Siri set to listen for ‘Hey Siri’ or just ‘Siri,’ the mic is always on. You can turn that off if it bothers you and just use the power button to activate it.
