I bought my iPad Air M2 from a marketplace. The seller said it was activated just five days before I got it, and it showed the correct warranty date. I’ve been using it for three months without any problems. Yesterday, I checked the warranty again, and it suddenly says the purchase date was in 1985. I looked it up and found out it could mean it was stolen during shipping or it’s not a legit product. Is it safe to keep using it, or should I be worried?
1985 is just a default date when the system can’t figure out the actual purchase date. It’s kind of like a placeholder from way back when the first Mac came out. Probably just a glitch with the website.
@Mica
Thanks! So, nothing to worry about with it being stolen or anything?

If it was stolen, it would show up as locked or blacklisted, especially if it had an iCloud lock on it. Since it’s not a cellular model, it would have been bought outright, so there’s no payment plan or blacklist issue. If it’s linked to your Apple ID, you should be good. Just make sure the serial number in your settings matches what’s engraved on the back. If you’re still unsure, reach out to Apple support to confirm the warranty status.
@Mica
Yeah, it’s linked to my Apple ID. I just got worried when I read online that 1985 means it could be stolen or missing in transit. If the worst-case scenario is just losing the warranty, I guess it’s fine.
@Lennon
Yep, that’s pretty much it. You might not have a warranty, but your device is still usable if it’s tied to your Apple ID.

Alright, I’ll keep using it then. Appreciate the help!
Time travelers messing with iPads now?
It usually means it was marked as lost during shipping or sold as-is. If you still have the receipt, you can reach out to Apple and see if they can fix it.

I don’t have the receipt. So it really might be stolen then?
@Lennon
You can still use it, but don’t count on any warranty support from Apple.

Got it. I’ll just use it as-is then. Thanks for the advice.

Straight from Apple, lol.
Sounds like a time traveler gadget to me.
Maybe it’s some kind of limited edition from the future?
Either it was stolen or refurbished. Be careful about resetting it because you might lose access completely.

The seller showed me the warranty when I got it, and it was fine. Now, after three months, it suddenly says 1985. Are you saying it’s definitely stolen?
@Lennon
Don’t share your serial number with anyone, not even here. Scammers can use it to fake devices. It’s probably just a glitch, but always be careful.
