What do you like about your iMac M3

I’m looking into buying an iMac for the first time and want to learn more about it I have a MacBook Air from 2020 which is very different from a desktop I’d guess, so I’d love to hear any pros and cons (mostly pros if possible) Thanks!

The operating system is the same for both laptop and desktop, so there’s no difference there The main difference is the larger screen size on an iMac versus a laptop You can also connect an external monitor to a laptop

@CodeSmith
Thanks for this info

I had an older iMac and loved having everything in one beautiful unit It makes for a tidy desk and is surprisingly easy to move if necessary

I love my M3 I’m a musician and use orchestral libraries
I regret getting only 8GB Yeah, I got the 10 core, but I’m not editing videos
It’s almost like buying a car where you can’t adjust the seat ever
But I’ve become skilled at using freeze bounces I literally have hundreds of extra RAM sticks sitting next to my fixed 8GB iMac from my Intel days
I realize this was my oversight Times have changed, and it’s now permanent

Just get a 14-inch MacBook Pro with 16GB of RAM and a docking station plus a monitor for roughly the same price as an M3 iMac with 16GB

I got a Thunderbolt/USB hub for mine (M1 version), so I have enough ports

I really like mine It feels like using a giant iPad—thin, quiet, etc

The only hiccup is that I rarely shut down or restart just to install updates and the Ethernet starts dropping out and reconnecting after a few weeks of use but it works normally after a reboot

@Reilly
Noted Thanks!

I’m really happy with my M3 iMac It’s super fast and having the large screen is a big advantage The speakers surprised me too—they’re much better than I thought they would be

The main drawback for me is the 60Hz display It made sense for a long time, but it’s 2024 now My phone has a better refresh rate

Thanks everyone Really appreciate the feedback

It’s… fine, just fine I wish I could say I loved it, but I can only say I like it It’s a nice-looking computer

I wish I had just committed both financially and literally and got the 14-inch MBP M3 Pro

While you could set up a cheaper Mac Mini with a separate display, I enjoy the iMac’s aesthetic
