I’m thinking about buying an iMac for the first time, but I want to know what you think about it. I already have a 2020 MacBook Air, but I’m guessing a desktop is different, so I’d love to hear what you like or don’t like about it (mostly the good stuff please ). Thanks in advance!
The OS is the same on both, so you won’t see much difference there. The biggest difference would be the bigger screen on the iMac, but you could always hook up a monitor to your laptop too.

Thanks for letting me know
I used to have one of the older iMacs, and I loved how everything was in one nice package. It really cleans up your desk, and it’s surprisingly easy to move if you need to.
I love my M3 iMac. I’m a musician and use a lot of orchestral libraries. I regret only getting 8GB of RAM though. It’s like buying a car where you can’t adjust the seat. I’m getting good at workarounds like bouncing tracks, but it’s annoying. I have tons of extra RAM from my old Intel days that’s now just sitting there. Definitely my mistake.
You could get a 14-inch MacBook Pro with 16GB of RAM, a dock, and a monitor for about the same price as an M3 iMac with 16GB.
I got a USB/Thunderbolt hub for my M1 iMac, so the lack of ports isn’t really an issue for me. It’s like using a giant iPad—thin, quiet, and super sleek. The only problem is that if I don’t reboot for a while, my Ethernet starts dropping after a few weeks, but it’s fine once I restart.

Good to know, thanks!

I really like my M3 iMac. It’s super fast, and the big screen is great. The speakers are better than I expected too.

The 60Hz display is a letdown for me. It worked for years, but in 2024? Come on. My phone has a higher refresh rate.

It’s… alright. I wanted to love it, but I can only say I like it. It looks great, though.

I should’ve just spent a little more and gone for the 14-inch MacBook Pro M3 Pro

Even though you could build a cheaper setup with a Mac Mini and a separate display, I prefer the look of the iMac.
