Thinking about getting a cheap Mac which one should I pick

Hello
My old laptop broke down completely. I still have insurance and am sending it for repair, but it’s going to take time and I need a quick replacement. I have often thought about buying a MacBook, and right now seems like a good time to get one.
I’m looking for a used one, I’m on a tight budget haha.

I’m aiming for a price range of 100 to 250 Euro (which is similar to dollars, no worries).

Any recommendations? I mainly want to use it for browsing, watching YouTube, playing flash games, and using the front camera. I just need a decent battery and about 500GB of storage.

Any suggestions are welcome

I would look for an M1 MacBook Air if you can find one in that price range locally! It might be a bit more expensive though

The M1 MacBook Air costs way more than that are you serious

You might want to look for a 2012-2015 15 inch Retina MacBook Pro for around 100 Euro.

I live in Canada, but I’ve managed to buy a few 2012-2013 15 inch Retina models for around 100 CAD (with a couple having 1TB SSDs) and they are honestly pretty nice. They have great 15 inch 2880x1800p screens, quad-core 4th Gen Intel i7 processors which are still decent for web browsing and light video editing, especially with an SSD. They come with dedicated graphics options, but they may not hold up well against new ones, still way better than integrated graphics.

You’ll get two USB 3 ports, a full-size SD card slot, and some Thunderbolt ports. Also, they have MagSafe 2 which is nice. The MacBook isn’t too heavy at around 4.5 pounds, and it’s not very thick either.

Just a heads up, there’s a common issue with the screens getting damaged, but it’s an easy fix. Just use something like acetone on a cloth to wipe the screen until the coating is gone. It usually takes me about an hour, but the screen looks good again after that.

For the price, quality, and performance, the 15 inch Retina MacBooks are some of the best options out there so shop locally for the best deals. You might find a cheap one on eBay too

If you can, save a little more and try to get an M1 Air, I’ve seen them for about 300 sometimes

With that budget, consider looking for a 2015 or 2017 13 or 15 inch MacBook Pro. They are the last ones you can upgrade the SSD by yourself. You should also ask the seller about the battery health percentage

Edit: If you want a laptop in better condition, you might need to raise your budget by 50 to 100 Euro

Try to save a bit more and get a M1 Air with 8GB. Nothing else is really worth the lower price in my opinion

First, the price isn’t directly comparable to dollars. Especially for the pricier models, you’ll notice the difference. Also, all Macs tend to be priced higher in Europe. With the money you have, it might be tough to find a MacBook. Consider looking at Mac minis instead

You should get a 15 inch MacBook Pro from 2015, it should last you for another year or two

Check the battery cycle count. If it’s high or shows signs of needing service, the battery life might not be great. Also, look into Open Core Legacy Patcher if you want to install a newer version of macOS. Just keep in mind that this is an older machine, so while the hardware is still pretty good, don’t expect top performance out of the battery for everything
