The guy at the Apple Store checked my SE and told me the trade-in value was only $60. I wasn’t sure I was ready to let it go yet, but he convinced me to upgrade to the iPhone 16.
The text on the 16 is so much clearer and sharper compared to the SE—it’s really impressive. But now I’m wondering if it was unnecessary to pick the 16 over the 15 since I don’t need the AI or other features he mentioned.
Was it a good idea to go for the 16 instead of the 15?

Yeah, I’d say it’s worth paying the extra $100 to have the newest model. It’s something you’ll probably keep for years.
Thanks for saying that! I didn’t plan to get a new phone today, so I didn’t have time to research like I usually do. I’m not usually this impulsive. Glad to hear it was a solid choice.
If you’re planning to keep the phone for a long time, the 16 is definitely the better option. It has a newer processor and 8GB of RAM compared to the 15’s 6GB.

Oh, that’s great to know. I usually hold onto my phones for as long as I can. Makes me feel better about choosing the 16. I was worried it might just be a sales tactic to push the latest model, but it’s good to hear there’s a real difference.
I’m glad you’re feeling better about it. You waited a long time since the SE, and you deserve the upgrade. Don’t overthink it—just enjoy! It’ll last you a good 4-5 years, maybe more. If you’re up for it, I’d recommend AppleCare+ since it covers more than the regular warranty. Also, you should join the waitlist for Apple Intelligence in your settings—it doesn’t take long. Congrats again!
@Thorn
Thanks! I just joined the waitlist. I did get AppleCare today and signed up for the monthly plan. Maybe I should check if switching to a one-time payment is better. Didn’t even think to compare!
@Jude
If you stick with monthly, you can keep it as long as you own the phone. The one-time payment only covers two years. Check that out before deciding.

You can’t switch back to monthly after the two years, right?
The difference between those phones must be huge. Enjoy the upgrade! You made the right choice going with the 16, especially with the 48MP camera and Apple Intelligence (only on the 15 Pro and newer).

It’s a much bigger difference than I expected. I thought it would just look nicer, but everything feels better than the SE.

I’ve been thinking about upgrading from an SE too. I was considering the 14 Pro, but now I’m wondering if I should go for the 16 instead?
I’m really happy with the 16. The advice here has made me feel good about my choice.

If it fits your budget, go for it. If you tend to keep your phones for more than four years, getting something with newer features like Apple Intelligence might be worth it. It’s better to have those options than needing to upgrade early later.

Good decision! Congrats on the new phone.
Thanks! I’ve only had SE models before because they’re cheaper, but I can really tell the difference with the 16. At first, I felt like I might have spent too much for features I wouldn’t use, but now I’m noticing how much better it is overall. Looking forward to testing the camera too—it’s supposed to be way better than what I had before.
Check out videos on Apple Intelligence—it’s still early days, but some features are handy. You can summarise text, rewrite it, or even remove unwanted objects from pictures. Let me know if you have questions.
