Should I update my Apple Watch Series 2… or keep it on the old software

I finally replaced the battery on my old Apple Watch Series 2 and tried to set it up. Turns out, it’s running such old software (watchOS 3.1) that it won’t connect to my iPhone 15 Pro. I had to dig out my old iPhone 5 to get it working. Now I’m trying to decide if I should keep it as is on the iPhone 5 or update it to use with my current phone. It’s kind of cool seeing it run on its original OS, but I’m not sure if it’s worth keeping it that way.

You paid to replace the battery on a watch that old?

Yeah, I did. Honestly, I’m not too bothered about the latest features. My only other smartwatch is an old Android one that doesn’t even have heart rate tracking. As long as this one can do tap to pay, sleep tracking, and sync with my Apple stuff, I’m happy. Plus, it was free, and it’s in good condition. No shame in using it.

Fair enough. I thought replacing the battery would cost at least $100. You can find used Series 5 or newer watches for that price.

I found someone who did it for $30, so it wasn’t a bad deal.

You’ll need to update it to watchOS 6 to use it with your iPhone 15 Pro. But you can’t do that with the iPhone 5. You’ll need an iPhone 6s or newer to update it.

I have an iPhone 6s that can update it. I’m just not sure if I want to keep it on the original software or update it so I can use it with my current phone.

The watch is pretty old, but watchOS 6 is a huge improvement over 3.1.
