I currently have a OnePlus that’s almost 4 years old. Someone I know can bring the 16 Pro from the US to India in March, making it much cheaper than buying it here. But there have been rumours about big design changes in the 17 series. Is it worth getting the 16 Pro in March, or should I wait for the 17 Pro to come out in September?
Why not wait for the iPhone 20? That would totally outdo the 17 Pro.

Honestly, the iPhone 23 might be a better bet for you.
The 16 Pro is still pretty new, you should go for it.

Yeah, but I’ve heard they’ll make major design changes. What if the Pro and Pro Max get a whole new look? If they change it completely, then getting the 16 Pro might not be such a good choice. The 16 Pro is kind of like the 13, 14, and 15 series, so if they redesign it and keep that design for several years, the 16 Pro could start to feel outdated.
@Wren
From what I’ve seen, the only design change is a two-tone back with a metal rectangle for the cameras that goes across the phone, with a larger glass area under that. The sides might also have a mix of aluminum and titanium instead of all titanium. It doesn’t sound like the upgrade is going to be huge. If you’re not in a rush for a new phone, I’d say wait for the 17. That way, if the design doesn’t change much, you could get the 16 Pro cheaper. @Bliss
That rectangular design looks pretty bad, I don’t know what they were thinking. If they move away from the triangle layout, they might stick with the rectangle design for a few generations, which would make the 16 Pro feel outdated. Yeah, I guess waiting for the 17 makes more sense.
@Wren
I’ve heard conflicting rumours. Some say they’ll keep the triangular layout for the 17, but they all agree on the two-tone back design.
The 16 Pro is still a great choice, it’s only been out for a couple of months.
The real question is, do you actually need a new phone right now? Every year, new iPhones come out with design changes, and it’s tempting to wait for the ‘perfect’ one. But the ‘perfect’ phone doesn’t exist. When you get the 17 Pro, the 18 series will be just around the corner. If you need a phone now, the 16 Pro is still an amazing choice. It’s one of the best iPhones, especially if you like iOS. Plus, the design is subjective. What matters most is how the phone works for you. Just go for what fits your needs and enjoy it.
@Ollie
Exactly. If OP really needed a new phone, they would have already gone for the 16 Pro.
Why not wait for the iPhone 9482736849572627934?
Whatever you go for, make sure you get at least 256GB.
My previous phone was a OnePlus Nord from 2020. It still worked fine, but the screen started flickering and the battery lasted only 4 hours. I upgraded to the 16 Pro last week, and it’s been great so far.
The 17 Pro is still months away. If you need a new phone now, just get what’s available. If you can wait and you’re happy with your current phone, then hold off.
What’s the price difference? In India, you can get it for 1.2L with a bank offer, or around 1.1L if you exchange your old OnePlus.

In the US, the 128GB variant is priced at $999, which is about 86K. I’m not sure how much taxes will add, but it’ll probably stay under 1L. It’s still cheaper than the Indian variant. I don’t have a credit card for the bank offers and I’m not planning to exchange my OnePlus.
@Wren
Sales tax depends on the state you buy it from, so make sure to check that too.
Why not wait for the 17 Pro? Or maybe think about getting a Pro Max.
I’m using the 15 Pro. I’ll wait for the 17 Pro and decide then whether to wait for the next series or just upgrade.
