This is surprising. MagSafe should be a standard feature by now. Why would Apple not want to push their accessory sales?

Especially since they are losing out on Lightning cable profits.
@Chao
Qi2 accessories don’t need Apple’s approval or licensing.

Probably a way to cut costs while keeping profit margins up.
@Taliesin
A simple set of magnets shouldn’t cost that much to make.

If they save even $1 per phone and sell 100 million of these, that’s a lot of money saved.

They’ll make up for it by convincing people to upgrade to the next tier model.

It’s a budget model, so they had to remove something to justify the lower price.
@bennycole
Feels more like budget features at a mid-range price.

It’s still much cheaper than the flagship models. If you want MagSafe, you need to pay more.

It’s not even close to half the price of the flagship. Charging $600 for this is a ripoff.

They probably planned this so people will buy more expensive models or MagSafe-compatible cases.
According to reports, the iPhone 16e will not support MagSafe. It’s similar to the iPhone SE, meaning accessories like MagSafe cases, chargers, and wallets won’t work. The phone does have Qi wireless charging at 7.5W, but this is the first modern iPhone without MagSafe since it was introduced in 2020.
@Blake
Since it still has wireless charging, a MagSafe-compatible case might still work for keeping a charger centered.
This phone seems targeted at a specific market, probably for people who don’t care about accessories as much. The main iPhone 16 lineup is still the core focus for Apple.
I was considering upgrading from my 13 Pro, but no MagSafe is a deal breaker.
Apple had a chance to release a solid budget model, but they pulled this move instead. Would have made more sense to just simplify the lineup instead of removing useful features.

Apple will probably discontinue the iPhone 15 once the iPhone 17 launches.
@Zan
They will, but then they’ll just sell the 16 models instead. Feels like an unnecessary move.
For $100 more, you can get the iPhone 15. For a little more, a refurbished 14 Pro is a better option. This phone is way too expensive for what it lacks.
