I’m new to iPhones, coming from Android, and I just got an iPhone 16 base model. I tend to hold onto my phones for as long as possible, only upgrading when they start showing issues like lag or overheating. My previous phone was a Samsung A52s, which I used for almost 4 years before upgrading, though I could have kept it for longer. So, if I take good care of my new iPhone 16, how many years do you think it will last?
My mom’s iPhone 11 Pro Max is still running perfectly.

I still have my iPhone 11 base model, and it’s working just fine. I don’t upgrade my iOS past version 18, but that’s just a personal choice.

I tried updating my iPhone 11, but it crashed. Apple couldn’t fix it, so I had to get a new phone.

That’s crazy. I figured updates would slow it down, but I didn’t expect it to crash completely. I was thinking about upgrading to the 16 or 16 Pro, but my phone still works fine, so I’m on the fence about it.

I ended up getting the iPhone 16 Pro with the largest screen and 500GB storage. It’s been 4 days, and I love it.

Glad you’re enjoying it! I’m still debating whether to upgrade since my iPhone 11 still works, but I know it’s getting old now.
I usually upgrade every 3 years, but if you take good care of it, the iPhone 16 will receive updates until 2030, so it should be usable for a while. But at some point, you might need to replace the battery.
You should be able to use it for 6-7 years max.
I had an iPhone 5, then an iPhone X, and now I have the iPhone 16. I think it will last me until the iPhone 21 comes out.
I upgraded from the iPhone XR to the iPhone 16 Plus. My XR battery couldn’t last 30 minutes of use, and it was lagging. Hopefully, the 16 lasts me another 5 years.
I’m still using my iPhone 11, which I bought on day one. I haven’t replaced the battery yet, but I know I’m overdue for one. It’s 5 years old, but I think it can easily last at least another 2 years.
6-7 years with 1 or 2 battery replacements.
You can expect it to last about 4 years. You might need to replace the battery after 3 years.
I had my iPhone 13 Pro Max for 3 years before I sold it. Who knows, maybe it’s still working fine now!

The iPhone 13 Pro Max came out 3.5 years ago, though?
My iPhone 11 (128GB) is 5 years old, and that’s around the time when Apple’s recommended updates start showing the battery aging. I had an iPhone 6 before it for 5 years too. I’m expecting my new iPhone 16 (256GB) to last about 5 years.
At least 5 years.
Expect it to last 5-6 years.
At least a year.
